Mystics Rally Past Fever in OT as Clark Falls Short

Mystics top – Sonia Citron scored 30 points and added overtime production as the Washington Mystics beat the Indiana Fever 104-102 on Friday night. Caitlin Clark finished with 32 points and hit a dramatic three to force overtime, but the Fever came up short.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever looked ready to close it out after Caitlin Clark delivered late heroics, but the Washington Mystics found an answer in overtime to steal a 104-102 win on Friday night.

Clark ended with 32 points and seven threes, drilling a three from the left wing with 1.7 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 89-all. After that, Citron made a half-court shot that didn’t come off in time before the buzzer, but the Mystics still had momentum headed into the extra period.

Sonia Citron took control when it mattered most, scoring five points in overtime and finishing with 30 overall.. Kiki Iriafen added 25 points and 13 rebounds for Washington, and the Mystics outlasted Indiana despite Clark’s late push.. Shakira Austin scored 19 and rookie Cotie McMahon—playing in her first game—put in 13 points, including five in overtime.

The turning point came late, but it wasn’t just a one-moment surge.. Iriafen and Citron combined for 44 points after halftime. and Washington converted efficiently—21 of 31 from the field and 56% shooting for the game.. Washington moved the ball when it needed to. with Citron contributing two assists in the extra period as the Mystics kept their footing.

Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell scored 24 points, yet the final minute of overtime was where the Fever couldn’t quite seal the deal. Mitchell missed two free throws in the last minute of overtime, and then a contested 2 from the left corner with time expiring didn’t fall. Monique Billings added 10 points.

There was also concern for the Fever during the game. Aliyah Boston recorded nine points but left with a lower leg injury with two minutes left in the third quarter and did not return.

The Fever jumped out early, hitting 6 of 7 three-point attempts in the first quarter to take a 28-21 lead.. Washington closed strong before the break. scoring the last five points of the opening period and outscoring Indiana 20-9 in the second to lead 41-37 at halftime.. In the second half. the Mystics built a 14-point advantage. only to watch Indiana climb back in the fourth as Clark sparked a 12-2 run to start the final frame.

Even with their share of big moments from long range—Indiana made 17 threes on 42 attempts—the Fever were outscored 48-28 in the paint.

Washington will continue its four-game road trip at Dallas on Monday. Indiana returns home next, hosting Seattle on Sunday in the second game of four straight at home.
