Monday night in Uptown, the scene on West Argyle Street turned chaotic as police converged and crime scene tape cut off a block of homes—while medics moved people to hospitals.
At least five people were hospitalized after a police-involved shooting, police said. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability responded to the scene in the 1400 block of West Argyle Street, according to a post on X around 9:10 p.m.
Police spokesperson Tom Ahern said at the scene that three officers were taken to a nearby hospital in good condition.
Ald. Andre Vasquez, whose ward covers the area, said two people were shot—one by a Chicago police officer—and were taken to nearby hospitals in serious condition.
The immediate physical evidence of gunfire was visible as officers arrived: evidence markers delineated at least six shell casings on Argyle Street while numerous officers responded. Around a dozen people gathered near the scene. and some couldn’t get back to their homes because the perimeter was cordoned off by crime scene tape.
What led up to the shooting was unclear. Both the cause of the violence and the sequence of events remained under investigation.
