MS Now Host Sums Up How Gross Trump’s Lindsey Graham Eulogy Was In Just 1 Sentence

On Wednesday’s episode of “Morning Joe,” co-host Joe Scarborough seemed desperate to find some kernel of poignancy within President Donald Trump’s very weird speech about the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) at his funeral Tuesday.

After showing a few clips of the president’s remarks about Graham at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., Scarborough — a former Republican congressman — said: “Well, let’s listen to more of the president’s eulogy. I’m sure there’s a part or two that’s more moving and complimentary … about my friend Lindsey.”

There was nothing “moving” or “complimentary” within the next two clips the MS NOW morning show decided to roll.

The first featured Trump attempting to say something nice about Graham, but completely contradicting it halfway through.

“No matter how heated things got in Washington, virtually everyone, Republican or Democrat, liked Lindsey. Well, not everybody, but it sounds good,” the president said. “Not everybody. He was a tough cookie, OK. I have to veer from this for a second. He was a tough cookie, as you remember.”

The other clip made it seem like Trump considered Graham more of a nuisance than a friend.

While speaking about how Graham ran against him for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, Trump admitted that the two “did not exactly get off to the best of starts.”

He then recalled how he got even with Graham after the South Carolina lawmaker said something “rather nasty” about him while on the campaign trail.
“So naturally, I did something that I shouldn’t have done. I shared his personal cellphone number with the millions of people that happened to be watching that particular day as I made a speech,” he said.

“That was the beginning of a friendship, in a way,” the president continued. “But it was Lindsey who had the last laugh, because while I blew up his phone all for one day, we became great friends. And Lindsey did not stop calling me for the next 10 years. It was not easy.”

“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski summed up the general vibe of Trump’s speech pretty concisely.

“Oh my God,” she said while face-palming. “Is this a eulogy at a funeral?” she asked incredulously.

Scarborough also looked uncomfortable and tried to make a joke — but swiftly gave up and transitioned the segment over to Financial Times columnist Ed Luce.

As Luce began to speak, Scarborough also face-palmed while a still-reeling Brzezinski continued to wince.
