Momentum 5 lands June 16 with sharper ANC

Sennheiser’s Momentum 5 Wireless arrives June 16 for $400, promising major upgrades to sound and active noise cancellation—while keeping much of the Momentum 4’s core design. It brings Hi-Res Audio certification, Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless support, a
The Momentum 5 Wireless goes on sale June 16, and it arrives with a clear message: don’t look at the outside. Look at what’s happening inside.
Sennheiser’s new headphones keep a design that’s nearly the same as the Momentum 4. nearly four years after that model debuted. The changes are mostly under the hood. starting with what Sennheiser says are upgrades to both sound and active noise cancellation (ANC). There’s one catch on the price tag: the Momentum 5 costs $50 more than the Momentum 4.
For audio. the Momentum 5 uses the same 42mm transducers found in the Momentum 4—transducers inspired by Sennheiser’s iconic HD 600 series. tuned for what the company describes as “full-bodied sound” and “dynamic bass.” The new fifth-generation model adds Hi-Res Audio certification and Snapdragon Sound. including Bluetooth codec support up to aptX Lossless. On the software side. Sennheiser’s Smart Control Plus app now includes an 8-band EQ. plus audio presets and sound personalization.
It also leans into Sennheiser’s lossless ecosystem. The Momentum 5 is compatible with the company’s BTD 700 lossless Bluetooth dongle, which debuted alongside the HDB 630 headphones. And Sennheiser says digital signal processing (DSP) Bluetooth updates are already planned.
One of those updates arrives from day one. With a “day one update,” Sennheiser will add Dolby Atmos support with head tracking for listening to or watching compatible Atmos content. Until that update lands, the headphones support Dolby Atmos—but without the more immersive head-tracking feature.
The wireless roadmap doesn’t stop there. The Momentum 5 ships with Bluetooth 5.4, but Sennheiser says it was designed for the upcoming Bluetooth 6.0 release. That upgrade will come via firmware update.
ANC is where Sennheiser is pushing the most tangible hardware change. The company added two additional microphones per side, bringing the total to four microphones on each ear cup. Sennheiser describes these as “across-the-board improvements,” promising up to three times more effective noise cancellation for human voices. It also says the extra microphones should deliver “more natural voice quality on calls.”.
Battery life is still long, just not identical. The Momentum 4 lasted up to 60 hours on a charge with ANC enabled, while the Momentum 5 is rated for 57 hours. Sennheiser also includes a quick charge feature: up to three hours of use in just five minutes. The 700mAh battery is user-replaceable, and the company says you only need a small Phillips-head screwdriver to swap it.
Sennheiser will sell the Momentum 5 Wireless starting June 16 for $400, with black, white, and blue color options.
