Mock draft points to Warriors for Yaxel Lendeborg

As the 2026 NBA draft approaches, Yaxel Lendeborg—highlighted in Michigan’s run to a title—is appearing in mocks with a potential landing spot in Golden State.

Michigan power forward Yaxel Lendeborg is drawing attention in 2026 NBA draft mocks, with one projection placing the standout in Golden State—even if he doesn’t crack the top 10.

The draft is “on the way,” and in a mock released Saturday, May 23, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report mapped Lendeborg’s path to the Warriors. The reasoning is rooted in Golden State’s identity: a franchise described as an “absolute powerhouse,” built for winning now.

In that projection, Buckley points to several forces shaping the Warriors’ approach. With Steve Kerr back and Stephen Curry remaining at an “elite level. ” he frames Golden State as preparing for another star search while maintaining win-now intentions. Against that backdrop, Buckley argues Lendeborg could fit the pitch, even outside the top 10.

The appeal, in his view, is tied directly to what Lendeborg has already shown at Michigan. Buckley describes the prospect as having played a “featured role” in the Wolverines’ march to the title—an accomplishment that’s doing more than just boosting a highlight reel. It’s supplying the kind of readiness teams look for when they’re trying to plug a player into a rotation sooner rather than later.

Lendeborg’s age is part of the discussion too. Buckley notes that the forward will be 24 as a rookie, which is older than many prospects typically entering the NBA. Still. he suggests there’s little doubt about how polished Lendeborg’s game is. and he doesn’t need “a ton of development” simply to survive at the next level.

The projection also emphasizes versatility. Lendeborg is described as having “some of the more versatile tools in this draft. ” with the expectation that he can come in and contribute through the less glamorous parts of winning—things like spacing. decision-making. and the small. steady habits that help rotations hold together.

Even within the limits of a single mock, the bigger message stays consistent: if shot-making and creation keep improving, there’s a path for Lendeborg to grow into more than a ready-made rotation piece over time.

For now, his draft future looks tethered to one question every team faces as the event gets closer: not whether a player can help today, but whether he can help today without needing a long detour first.
