The Milwaukee Brewers did not ease into Saturday’s game against the Colorado Rockies. They attacked from the first inning, and the name that kept showing up on the ballpark scoreboard was Jacob Misiorowski.
Milwaukee won 7-1, with Misiorowski moving to 7-2 on the season. He went seven innings and struck out eight batters, giving up just one unearned run. The dominance was there in the results—but it was the speed behind them that made the outing feel historic.
Heading into the start, Misiorowski had thrown 350 pitches at 100 MPH or greater. That total was more than any other team in all of baseball. On Saturday, he delivered 52 of his 98 pitches at more than 100 MPH, bringing his season total to 402 pitches over 100 MPH.
One pitch landed even higher than the rest. Misiorowski threw a 103.7 MPH pitch— the fastest by a starter since pitch tracking began in 2008. Sarah Langs of MLB also pointed out that Misiorowski owns each of the top 12 velocity pitches made by a starter since 2008.
The fastball isn’t just showing up once. Since 2008, only two other starting pitchers have thrown a pitch at 103 MPH or greater, including the playoffs. Jordan Hicks reached that mark twice as an opener, and Justin Verlander did it once. Misiorowski has done it 28 times.
He’s piling up high-velocity work as well. Misiorowski has thrown 305 pitches at 101 MPH or greater as a starter. The next most since 2008 is Hunter Greene, also at 305.
That kind of consistency is already producing punchouts. Misiorowski has used a 100-plus MPH pitch to cause a strikeout 57 times this year and 77 times in his career— the second most of all time among starters, behind Hunter Greene’s 96.
The Brewers have been able to turn that pitching edge into wins. They are 39-23 on the season, placing them in first place in the NL Central. Milwaukee will wrap up its three-game series against the Rockies on Sunday.
For Rockies hitters. Saturday’s problem was simple and brutal: when Misiorowski got the ball out of his hand at that speed. there wasn’t much room to breathe. When it was over. the 7-1 final felt less like a single-game result and more like the scoreboard confirming what his velocity has been saying all season.
