Military Time installed as early favourite for Prince of Wales Stakes

Military Time was installed as the early 2-1 favourite for the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes on Thursday.

Military Time, second to filly Luster in last month’s $1-million King’s Plate at Woodbine Racetrack, headlines the eight-horse field for the second jewel of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown. The Prince of Wales Stakes, a 1 3/16-mile race on dirt, will be run Sept. 7 at Fort Erie Racetrack.

The race purse includes $100,000 for Ontario-bred horses, should one win.

Luster won’t be running in the Prince of Wales, leaving Wando as the last horse to win Canada’s Triple Crown in 2003.

Fraser Aebly will ride Military Time, which drew No. 2 post Thursday.

Highway To The Moon, with Jose Campos aboard, is the 3-1 early second pick and will start from the No. 8 post. Jockey Jalon Samuel will ride Fire and Wine, the 5-1 third choice that will break from the No. 6 post.

The remainder of the field with horse, jockey and odds, includes: Manitoba-bred Brachetto, Ryan Munger, 8-1; Buium, Emma-Jayne Wilson, 12-1; Imyourmedicineman, Luis Contreras, 6-1; Keep My Powder Dry, Pietro Moran, 8-1; and Auntie’s Bambino, Xarel Forde, 20-1.
