Mike Macdonald: “No update” on formal arrival of Terrion Arnold

On Thursday, reports emerged that the Seahawks had an agreement with free-agent cornerback Terrion Arnold. Four days later, the agreement has yet to become an official transaction.

Asked about the timetable for Arnold’s arrival on Monday, coach Mike Macdonald told reporters: “No update on his front.”

On Friday, Macdonald said “the timetable is being worked out” regarding Arnold. Macdonald also used the phrase “if and when he gets here.”

In the NFL, nothing is done until it’s done. Something is keeping the verbal deal from becoming a roster move.

Given that Arnold is facing eight felony charges that carry a potential sentence of life in prison arising from February’s Fargo-style effort to recover stolen property at gunpoint (Arnold denies any role in the caper), it’s possible that the Seahawks are exploring whether the league will put him on paid leave the moment the ink begins to dry on his Seahawks contract.

Then there’s the looming arrival of new ownership. It would be prudent for current management to know that, if the sale is approved next Tuesday, Vinod Khosla’s first order of business won’t be to release Arnold.

Like the Lions did, after Arnold was arrested.
