Mike Florio dares Michael Irvin to double down on Jed York defense during 49ers Netflix broadcast

Michael Irvin will have a chance to clarify his stance on San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York’s recent arrest.
The San Francisco 49ers are just a few days away from kicking off their 2026 NFL season with a game in Australia against the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers’ preseason preparations have been overshadowed recently by the arrest of owner Jed York, who served time in jail for engaging in prostitution in Ohio.
Recently, former NFL star Michael Irvin raised eyebrows with comments to streamer N3on defending York from the controversy.
“He got divorced five, six months ago, so I’m like, ‘Man, come on. Is that really a crime?’ Let that man go. Leave it alone,” Irvin said on Twitch, via Qwame Skinner of Awful Announcing.
Now, Mike Florio of NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk has spoke on how Irvin will have a chance to double down on these comments before Thursday’s game.
“Making Irvin’s comments more relevant is the fact that he’ll be on the 49ers-Rams pregame broadcast. Will Netflix embrace the subject and give Irvin a chance to repeat his viewpoint to a much larger live audience? Will Netflix steer clear of it?” wondered Florio.
Florio also pointed out that it’s possible that “Netflix doesn’t add the subject to the planned topics to address, and Irvin finds a way to bring it up.”
Irvin has never been one to keep his opinions to himself, even those of a controversial nature, which this one certainly seems to qualify as.
Meanwhile, on the field, the 49ers are hoping to keep the focus on their success as they try to build off last year’s trip to the NFC divisional round.
Kickoff between the Rams and 49ers is set for Thursday at 8:35 pm ET.
