Middlesbrough want Tottenham to revise their deal for defender Ashley Phillips amid concerns raised in his medical.
Boro agreed to pay £7million rising to £20m for the 21-year-old centre-back but the deal stalled at the weekend. Though talks are ongoing.
As Daily Mail Sport reported, the centre-back was at Middlesbrough’s Rockliffe Park training ground last week to complete his deal.
However, issues were raised and the move was put on hold while all parties try to find a suitable solution.
Middlesbrough may now explore an initial loan.
Phillips has spent the past two seasons on loan at Stoke City.

The centre-back originally came through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers and played 14 times for the club until he joined Tottenham for £2m in 2023 at the age of 18.
Despite heading into his fourth season as an official Spurs player, he is yet to make an appearance for their senior team.
Phillips spent the second half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Plymouth before his two-year stint with the Potters.
If Middlesbrough are able to revitalise a move, it would continue a busy summer for Kim Hellberg’s side.
After receiving a significant sell-on fee from Morgan Rogers’ £116m move to Chelsea from Aston Villa, Boro have signed the likes of Jeremy Sarmiento, Will Lankshear, Radek Vitek, Sebastian Berhalter and Kyle Joseph.
