Microsoft signals Surface hardware alongside ‘new era of PC’

Cryptic signals from Microsoft and Nvidia point to fresh Surface hardware and a “new era of PC” tied to Computex in Taipei, with Nvidia’s Windows on Arm push and Microsoft’s Build keynote both days away.

A “new era of PC” tease landed twice—first from Microsoft, then from Nvidia—and this time the details weren’t buried in a press release. They were encoded in coordinates, leading straight to Computex in Taipei.

Microsoft hardware chatter is circling a coming announcement. but one line of guidance matters: “whatever is coming is not a new OS version.” Davuluri said that explicitly. and it quickly narrows the possibilities—no Windows 12 at Microsoft’s Build developer conference next week. at least not as a headline “new OS version” moment.

That constraint makes the rest of the puzzle feel sharper. A Windows account on X posted a matching. cryptic message promising “a new era of PC. ” with coordinates pointing to where Computex is hosted in Taipei. The message reads less like a software release and more like an unveiling tied to new platforms or devices.

One theory gaining traction is that Nvidia could be stepping back into the Windows on Arm market with its own chips—rumored to be called the N1 and N1X. The logic is straightforward: Nvidia’s involvement would slot neatly into a future that’s not about a new operating system. but about what runs the next generation of PCs.

And Microsoft may be setting the stage for that hardware story. The same line of reasoning suggests Microsoft could be teasing the Nvidia chip announcement and potential Surface hardware designed to house it.

Nvidia’s own tease added fuel. The company posted about a “new era of PC” on Friday, and the post also included coordinates pointing to Taipei.

The timing is what turns this from vague hype into something closer to a countdown. Nvidia’s Computex keynote is set for Sunday, May 31st. Microsoft follows with its own Build keynote on Tuesday, June 2nd.

With Microsoft clearly signaling that this isn’t a new OS version, the attention shifts hard to what new hardware could mean for everyday PCs—and what “new era” will actually look like once the room goes quiet and the demonstrations start.

  1. The “coordinates” thing sounds like they’re playing treasure hunt with tech people. I don’t even know what Surface on Arm means but Nvidia chips?? That’s gonna be weird for compatibility.

  2. Wait the article says it’s not a new OS version, but then it’s like a “new era of PC” so basically it’s still Windows 12 just sneakier right? Also Computex in Taipei doesn’t feel like it affects my laptop at all.

  3. Microsoft tweeting in code is honestly so dumb, just say what you’re launching. If Nvidia is back in Windows on Arm with “N1” or whatever, doesn’t that mean old Surface stuff gets left behind? I’m confused because they said no new OS but then Nvidia is doing announcements like normal.
