“They definitely shuffled,” Hernandez said on the broadcast. “They brought in the truck and took out all the garbage. This is a turnaround for the club. It’s a new phase of this Mets season and future. Obviously Plan A didn’t work out … you’ve got a lot of young players here, it’s a look to the future.”

After the Mets defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-2, Heranendez put out an apology.

“In that open I said, ‘got out the garbage.’ That’s a poor choice of words, folks,” Hernandez admitted.

“I don’t want these guys beating me up. They got rid of some very, very good players. I can’t believe that word came out of my mouth, so my apologies.”

Overall, the Mets were able to pick up eight veterans before the Trade Deadline. They are Freddy Peralta, Luke Weaver, Brooks Raley, A.J. Minte, Clay Holmes, and Huascar Brazobán. Additionally, the Mets brought on a slew of young prospects to help strengthen the farm system.

Hernandez played 7 out of his 16 MLB seasons for the Mets from 1983 to 1989. He was part of the historic 1986 World Series-winning team. Additionally, Hernandez won 11 Gold Glove Awards and finished with a career batting average of .296 with 2,182 hits, 162 home runs, and 1,071 RBIs.
