Meta rolls Facebook AI Mode to synthesize posts

For people who don’t want to scroll anymore, Meta is betting Facebook’s search will feel more like a conversation.
On Monday. the company announced a new headline feature on Facebook called “AI Mode.” It’s designed as a different way to find information: users can ask a question in plain language. and Meta AI will surface answers synthesized from public posts across the platform—including Groups and Reels—rather than sending people through a traditional stack of search results.
The move doesn’t come out of nowhere. Meta also launched Forum quietly last month, a Reddit-style app that includes its own AI “Ask” tab. In that feature, people can pose questions and get answers pulled from discussions happening across Facebook Groups.
The reliability question hangs over both products. When answers are generated by summarizing content created by everyday users and group chatter—rather than by vetted sources—outdated or misleading information can slip in. That concern has already been raised about Google’s own AI Mode on Reddit. and Meta’s approach brings the same problem into Facebook’s feed.
Meta isn’t only changing how people search. The company also added new editing tools aimed at making it easier to experiment with video montages. including collage cutouts and transition effects. There are AI-powered photo presets as well, letting users adjust their look with different clothes, hairstyles, and accessories.
For sports fans, the pitch is simple: virtually wear your favorite team jerseys. Users can tap the “AI Edit” icon in Stories and choose “Wear It,” or they can go straight to their profile picture and select “Restyle profile picture with AI” and “Wardrobe.”
These releases add to the stack of AI features Meta has already shipped on Facebook in recent months. In February. the company introduced animated profile pictures that bring still photos to life—such as adding a wave or placing a virtual party hat on someone’s head. In March, Meta added an AI feature to Facebook Marketplace that automatically replies to buyer messages on sellers’ behalf.
And the push keeps going. Earlier this month, Facebook launched an AI assistant for creators offering personalized suggestions. That includes the best times to post, along with summaries of what audiences are saying in the comments, based on a creator’s content and performance history.
Taken together, the flurry of announcements points to a clear direction: Meta wants AI tools that keep people using Facebook longer and make the platform feel more responsive—while also diversifying how it makes money.
Alongside the AI feature rollouts, Meta recently launched global subscription plans for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Starting at $3.99 a month, the plans unlock additional features, with more AI-related subscription tiers reportedly on the way.

So now Facebook searches you questions like Google? Great, can’t wait for misinformation.
I don’t even trust normal Facebook posts half the time, and now they’re “synthesizing” them?? Like it’s gonna mash together some random group chat and call it an answer. Also why do we need fewer results and more AI talking.
This sounds cool but I’m confused… is this the same thing as that Reddit “AI Mode” thing? If it’s pulling from Groups and Reels, that’s literally where the dumbest takes live lol. I bet it’ll be like “wear it” jersey thing instead of actual search, because that’s what people will click anyway.
Meta really wants to stop people from scrolling by doing the scrolling for you. But if it summarizes public posts, doesn’t that mean it can just repeat whatever rumor was trending? Like, “yes the vaccine does this” type stuff? And then they’ll say it’s from users like that makes it accurate. Also the AI edit clothes/hairstyles… isn’t that just training facial recognition on everything? I didn’t sign up for that.
