Megyn Kelly warns GOP: Iran war “kills” 2026–2028 odds

Megyn Kelly warned congressional Republicans that President Donald Trump’s war on Iran could cost the GOP the 2026 midterms, harm its Senate prospects, and weaken chances in the 2028 presidential race. In her Piers Morgan interview, she called the situation in

Megyn Kelly didn’t deliver her warning like a casual political hot take. In a recent interview with Piers Morgan. the former Fox News host laid out a grim scenario for congressional Republicans: a voter mood she says is souring over inflation. gas prices. and the prolonged Iran conflict—and the GOP’s math getting worse from election to election.

“We assume we’re going to lose the House on Team GOP. but now more and more political pundits are predicting that the Republicans are going to lose the Senate as well. ” Kelly said. She followed that with a blunt warning about the stretch ahead. arguing the political map doesn’t improve just because the calendar turns.

Kelly said Republicans are heading toward a 2028 presidential cycle carrying the weight of the 2026 midterms. plus House elections for some Senate seats. “And the map doesn’t get any easier for Republicans two years after these midterms. when we go into 2028 with a presidential election and yet another election for House members in some Senate seats. ” she said. “So all the math is bad. We don’t have the cards to play.”.

Her critique sharpened when she turned directly to the war itself. Kelly described the situation in Iran as a trap with no clean way out. “It’s already a quagmire,” she said. “Yes. it’s only 13 weeks [old] or whatever it is. but it’s already a quagmire because there’s no easy solution left. even if we just pack up our bags and leave. which is what we should do.”.

Kelly’s comments landed after she made similar criticisms earlier on Morgan’s show in early May, when she called the conflict a “disaster” and urged Trump to “give the Iranians the deal they want.”

The contrast with Trump was immediate and stark. Shortly before Kelly’s warning. President Donald Trump publicly dismissed political fallout from the war. saying he “does not care” about its impact on Republican chances of securing the House in November. During a Cabinet meeting on May 27. Trump said Iran’s military strength had been crippled and argued the midterms weren’t a factor for him.

“Iran’s navy is gone, as I’ve said a thousand times. … Their air force is gone. Everything’s gone. … Maybe we have to go back and finish it. Maybe we don’t,” Trump said. He added, “Their economy is in freefall,” and later framed Iran as trying to wait out his political opponents. “They thought they were gonna outwait me, you know. ‘We’ll outwait him. He’s got the midterms.’ I don’t care about the midterms.”.

While Trump insisted the political stakes wouldn’t change his approach. cracks inside House Republican ranks already showed up in voting behavior. On Wednesday. June 3. four House Republicans—Tom Barrett. Warren Davidson. Brian Fitzpatrick and Thomas Massie—joined Democrats in passing a war powers resolution aimed at restricting Trump’s authority over the conflict in Iran.

Public frustration has been growing alongside those internal divisions. Polling cited in the reporting suggests voters are increasingly skeptical of the war’s outcome and its economic impact. An ABC-The Washington Post survey released in May found 61% of Americans believe the conflict was a “mistake. ” while just 19% consider it successful. A separate Fox News poll found that 64% of Americans believe attacking Iran was the “wrong decision. ” with 65% disapproving of Trump’s handling of the conflict.
