Maya Jama returned to the Love Island villa on Monday night to kick off the new season — but it wasn’t the only thing she brought up.

Hours earlier. she broke her silence on her split from Manchester City centre-back Ruben Dias. choosing to speak directly when she responded to a clip from the podcast Cocktails and Takeaways. Discussing the end of the relationship. the Love Island host. 31. said: “Truth is even when I tried to keep my relationships private we get photographed anyway. I’m an all or nothing girl. I don’t casually date. so yes I will love loudly or not at all and if it ends it ends. I decided a long time ago not to base personal life decisions on public opinions.”.

In the days since they parted ways — with the couple calling it quits in April after 18 months together — her message has landed online with force. Her comment has so far racked up over 2,000 likes, and the podcast account replied: “Love you for what you stand! Maya”.

Later on Monday, Jama also posted a picture showing herself zipping around on a golf cart, while singing the line: “Something has changed within me”.

The split has quickly turned into a public argument of its own, with accusations appearing after the break. Ruben Dias has been accused of sending late-night follow requests to a string of influencers while he was still romantically involved with Jama.

Dias has now pushed back hard. After the cheating allegations surfaced. he insisted he did not cheat and said Jama “deserves all the respect in the world”. Writing in full. he said he only draws the line on what is acceptable when his “85-year-old grandad” keeps asking him if he has cheated on his girlfriend because he’s seen it repeatedly in the news. He added: “Maya and I have always had a relationship built on mutual respect. No line was ever crossed in that regard.”.

He then addressed the core of the denial: “A lie told often enough can start to feel like the truth and for that reason I tell you that I didn’t cheat, nor did I ever have the intention or temptation to. I believe Maya deserves all the respect in the world.”

Dias also said the reasons for the breakup are private: “The reasons why we broke up are private and belong to us and we’ve both dealt with it in a very mature way.”

He added a further push for boundaries in how people talk about each other: “I’ve always chosen to remain silent on these matters as my personal life is my business only.”

Then, in a warning directed at the narrative around them, he said: “But I also believe it’s wrong to lie to people and to portray an opposite image of someone just for clickbait.”

He finished with a plea that tries to keep the relationship from being turned into a public blame game: “Respect me, respect Maya, and understand that not always one has to betray the other in order for a relationship to end.”

Jama’s own message leaned in the same direction — against casual dating, against being pulled into public judgments, and against turning personal decisions into a reaction to strangers. She said she doesn’t “casually date” and has chosen not to “base personal life decisions on public opinions.”

Yet the claims surrounding Dias have continued. After their split, he was accused of “toe-dipping” on social media before breaking off the romance.

The accusation centers on a trend described as a more subtle alternative to direct messaging: one user follows another in the hope of gauging interest. If there is no reciprocation, they unfollow and move on.

It’s understood that Dias used this technique in March — weeks before his relationship with Maya came to an end — after encountering attractive model and bridal designer Catarina Duraes online. He unfollowed her a little more than 24 hours later when she did not follow him back.

Earlier, he reportedly did something similar in November 2025 with Scottish brunette Claire, though it is noted that there is no suggestion he was unfaithful while involved with Maya.

A further claim attached to the reporting says: “It might just seem like a simple follow online but it’s the intention behind it. following someone to see if they follow back and interact. and always doing it late at night – it’s seedy.” The implication is that the late-night browsing is not just idle behavior. but a way to test whether interest might turn into something else.

All of this is unfolding while Dias has been celebrating major success with Manchester City. He is currently marking a domestic double with the club, after winning the League and FA Cup in manager Pep Guardiola’s final season.
