Matt Lauria Says Kingdom Reunion Needs a Call

Matt Lauria says a Kingdom reunion is possible—if he gets a phone call—while he’s currently booked with Sheriff Country and looking ahead to more Boone backstory in season 2.
Matt Lauria made one thing clear about a Kingdom reunion: the real barrier isn’t interest—it’s logistics.
The 43-year-old actor. busy with Sheriff Country. said the only thing that would pull him back to the gritty world of Kingdom would be simple enough to fit on a caller ID. “What would it take to get me to do another to do more Kingdom?. It would take a phone call,” Lauria told Us Weekly, adding, “That’s it.”.
He sounded just as ready on the creative side. Lauria said he’d reunite with his costars “in a heartbeat,” then joked about getting his body back into shape. “Give me six weeks to try and get the six-pack back,” he said. “I’m older than when we started. That was in 2014 so 12 years have gone by. But as far as I can tell, everybody’s still in shape and everybody is still very active. We could pull it off in a heartbeat.”.
Kingdom ran from 2014 to 2017. The series followed a retired MMA fighter trying to keep his mixed martial arts gym afloat while navigating the volatile lives—and personal demons—of his sons and his fighters. Lauria starred alongside Frank Grillo, Kiele Sanchez, Jonathan Tucker, Nick Jonas and Joanna Going.
Lauria also pointed to how the conversations might already be starting. “I ran into Byron Balasco. who’s now part of the CBS and Paramount family because he’s writing on one of the NCIS shows. ” Lauria told Us about the reunion talk with Kingdom’s coshowrunner. “We kind of mumbled about a reunion and it doesn’t seem like anybody’s against it. It was one of the highlights of all of our careers — in terms of the experience we had.”.
Even beyond Lauria’s optimism, the idea of getting the band back together has clearly stayed alive among the cast. Frank Grillo, 60, told Us in September 2025 that he was ready too. “Byron Balasco and Jonathan Tucker and I were just on a three-way [call],” Grillo shared. “We were trying to figure out how we could possibly — I’m not kidding — put it together.”.
That same conversation, Grillo teased, is where the next step is supposed to start. The trio are looking to “come up with some ideas” and “get the band back together” to “see if we could finish an eight-episode run,” he said. “We actually talked about that.”
For now. though. Lauria is focused on the present—and he seems intent on making the most of his time with Sheriff Country. He plays Boone and described Boone’s current chapter in Edgewater with a mix of confidence and curiosity. “Boone is embracing Edgewater for all that it is,” Lauria noted. “That’s been the central journey for Boone. and I think that’s also what allowed him to really explore internally and confront his feelings for Mickey.”.
He explained that the emotional stakes have been a challenge for Boone in a very specific way. “Because normally, that would be a hard line for him not to cross,” Lauria said. “But then there’s a more human side to all of this.”
The show’s character dynamic, Lauria added, has pushed Boone toward harder truths. “It matters because he’d seen Mickey time and time again take a human approach with people and have it bear fruit. ” he said. “That contributed in large part to Boone confronting his feelings about Mickey — only to get shot down.”.
Lauria’s excitement for what’s next in season 2 came through when he talked about what Boone is still hiding. “He kept a lot of things close to the vest — including a secret wife. I’d love to get into more about who this dude is.”
