Match Preview | St. Louis CITY SC Hosts Houston Dynamo FC at Energizer Park | St. Louis SC

St. Louis CITY SC welcomes Western Conference-leading Houston Dynamo FC to Energizer Park on Saturday, August 22. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT, and the match can be watched on Apple TV. CITY SC enters the matchup unbeaten in its last 11 matches across all competitions and is riding a 10-match unbeaten streak in MLS play, while Houston has climbed to the top of the Western Conference following a five-match winning streak.

St. Louis CITY SC earned a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday night at Sporting Park, extending its unbeaten streak to 11 matches across all competitions. Eduard Löwen opened the scoring in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, after his free kick was deflected into the back of the net for his third goal of the season and 20th career MLS goal. Sporting KC equalized through Calvin Harris in the 56th minute as the two sides split the points on the night. With the result, CITY SC matched Nashville SC’s league-best 10-match unbeaten streak from earlier this season. 

Saturday’s matchup features two of the Western Conference’s hottest teams. Houston moved into sole possession of first place on Wednesday night after defeating the previously first-place Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 1-0 at BC Place. The victory moved the Dynamo to 38 points, while CITY SC sits sixth with 30 points. CITY SC’s 30 points have come from an 8-6-6 record, while Houston enters Saturday with a 12-6-2 mark.  

St. Louis CITY SC vs. Houston Dynamo FC 

CITY SC’s last match against Houston Dynamo was the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal in May. CITY SC advanced to its first U.S. Open Cup semifinal after defeating Houston in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw at Energizer Park. Marcel Hartel scored twice for St. Louis, while Ben Lundt made two saves in the shootout. The U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal continued a competitive series between the clubs. Prior to that match, CITY SC held a 3-3-2 record against Houston across all competitions and had won three of its four previous home matches against the Dynamo at Energizer Park. All five matches at Energizer Park have seen three or more goals, with CITY SC holding an overall record of 3-1-1 at home. 

Scouting Houston Dynamo FC 

Houston sits at the top of the Western Conference behind a five-match winning streak earning five clean sheets in that span. The Dynamo’s most recent victory over Vancouver also marked their second consecutive road shutout. Houston forward Guilherme Santos leads the team in both goals (12) and assists (7).
