Massie and Greene Troll Trump With Costa Rica ‘America First’

Just days after Rep. Thomas Massie lost his primary to an opponent backed by President Donald Trump, the Kentucky congressman posted a boat video with former ally Marjorie Taylor Greene in Costa Rica, calling it an “America First” retreat. Greene reposted with

When Thomas Massie posted a fishing video with Marjorie Taylor Greene, he didn’t just share a vacation clip. He picked a caption that pointed straight at President Donald Trump’s political branding—then doubled down after the president helped knock him out of his own race.

On Wednesday. the Kentucky congressman posted footage of himself and Greene hanging out on a boat during what appeared to be a fishing trip in Costa Rica. according to The New York Times. Massie—wearing a white shirt and shorts—was shown working to reel in what appeared to be a large swordfish while Greene stood off to the side.

Massie captioned the video on X: “America First Pacific Summit Retreat.” Greene reposted it the same day, writing: “The first summit is underway, more to come.”

The “America First” reference is tied to Trump’s political agenda, which Massie’s post frames as emphasizing policies that prioritize America’s economic growth and national sovereignty in foreign relations. Trump has not appeared to publicly address Massie’s and Greene’s X posts.

The timing is hard to miss. Massie’s primary ended only days earlier. when he lost his bid to challenger Ed Gallrein. a retired Navy SEAL officer who was backed by Trump. The loss marks a sharp turn for a Republican who had frequently clashed with the White House—often in public—and who now finds himself on the outside. watching the president align with his successor.

The record of those feuds includes the controversy around the Jeffrey Epstein files and the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran—issues on which Massie and Trump butted heads. Greene, once one of Trump’s loudest supporters, also entered her own rupture with the president. She suffered a public breakup with Trump that she said was spurred by her push for the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

Greene tied the conflict to the act’s drive for transparency, which she said sparked harsh opposition from Trump. The measure was authored and championed by Massie and Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif.). Greene later announced her resignation from Congress on Nov. 21, 2025—days after Trump publicly withdrew his support for her.

Trump’s withdrawal was accompanied by personal language: he called Greene a “ranting Lunatic” while accusing her of having “gone Far Left.”

For Massie, the trolling didn’t end with the boat video. On Monday, he said he has filed paperwork to campaign for his U.S. House seat in 2028. “I filed with FEC for the 2028 House race,” Massie wrote on X. He added that the filing “allows me to raise funds to continue my political operations supporting my position as a current office holder and as a potential candidate for federal office.” Massie said he “haven’t made a final decision about which office to seek. if I run.”.

The sequence—Massie’s primary loss to a Trump-backed challenger. Greene and Massie trading “America First” jokes on X. and Trump staying publicly silent—creates a tense triangle of loyalty and rivalry on the right. In one corner is a president who endorsed Gallrein after clashing with both figures; in another are two Republicans who have turned a vacation setting into a message. And in the middle sits a caption—“More to come”—suggesting they believe the fight is not over.
