Mario Kart World adds new Knockout Tour routes

Nintendo rolled out a surprise update for Mario Kart World on June 30, 2026, bringing two new Knockout Tour route groupings—Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally—plus Photo Mode sticker support and a wide set of gameplay and bug fixes.
For players who have been checking Mario Kart World for signs of more than just incremental changes, Nintendo’s latest update arrives with two names—and a promise of more.
The game’s Switch 2 launch title, Mario Kart World, received version 1.7.0 on June 30, 2026, and it includes new Knockout Tour routes for the mode that strings racers through six existing courses in a bid to avoid elimination.
Drill Rally is now available, connecting Wario Shipyard to Bowser’s Castle. Boomerang Rally is also live, linking Salty Salty Speedway to Whistlestop Summit. Nintendo says these are selectable once players clear at least one Knockout Tour rally. and that additional Knockout Tour routes are planned for future updates.
Nintendo also emphasized that these routes aren’t brand-new tracks in the traditional sense. Instead, they’re fresh route groupings inside Knockout Tour—more trophies to chase, rather than a whole new world of courses to learn.
The update doesn’t stop with route selection. In Photo Mode, players can now add stickers they’ve collected to pictures taken from the pause menu. Nintendo also specifies that stickers can be added using touch controls or mouse controls.
There are also multiple gameplay tuning changes. Nintendo raised acceleration performance of characters and vehicles that had low acceleration. while gliding speed was raised for characters with high speed and for some other characters and vehicles. The developer also adjusted several movement and combat-adjacent moments. including making it so players can hop right away after being hit by Kamek’s magic or Bullet Bill.
Further tweaks target race feel: conditions for doing a Jump Boost by shaking the controller while racing on top of the water were adjusted; the dash time after landing on rivals is longer; players can stop a slipstream when braking before the slipstream starts; and the rate at which players can acquire items from item boxes in races and in Knockout Tour was adjusted. Nintendo also added a feature so players can see the Super Horn a rival is holding.
Elsewhere, Nintendo added a ramp to the race that heads from Airship Fortress to Bowser’s Castle, and added support for Thai, with language changes available in System Settings > System > Language.
The full patch notes also include a long list of fixes. Nintendo addressed an issue where the time after crossing the finish line in Time Trials would be incorrect. and said Time Trials ghosts that encountered this issue may be removed from View Rankings without notice. Other fixes include cases where gliding after crashing would slow speed down. where crashing could happen after hitting a Goomba or Para-Biddybud that was sent flying. and problems affecting helicopter access in Online Play and Wireless Play.
The update also covers item- and obstacle-specific issues involving items and hazards. Nintendo fixed an issue where throwing a Bob-omb behind while riding a Standard Bike or W-Twin Chopper wouldn’t go as far as on other vehicles. It also addressed several Bullet Bill problems. including one where a Spiny Shell hitting a gold block or a broadcast van would break. and an issue where players could slip through walls in Bowser’s Castle.
A series of course-specific fixes are listed as well: players could get stuck on an electronic sign in Dandelion Depths; could fall off the course in multiple scenarios including after using a Feather following a Jump Boost in Dandelion Depths. and after jumping on a parasol in the race heading to Salty Salty Speedway. Nintendo says players could also fall off in a shortcut route from Koopa Troopa Beach to Dino Dino Jungle. lose two coins at once in the race heading east from Peach Stadium. and fall from a rail in the race from Cheep Cheep Falls to Dandelion Depths when doing a Jump Boost while rail riding.
Other course fixes include being unable to move at Shy Guy Bazaar after hitting a pole at a shop; Dry Bones falling through the ground around Dry Bones Burnout; players slipping off the course in the races heading from Wario Shipyard to DK Pass or Cheep Cheep Falls; and cases where players were returned very far in front after falling off the course on various courses.
Nintendo’s notes end with a reminder that “several other issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience,” as well as the release details for the update.
With Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally now added—and with Nintendo saying more Knockout Tour routes are planned—players still waiting on completely new content will at least have clearer goals in the mode’s trophy chase. For now. the question becomes simple: how quickly Nintendo will bring the next set of routes after players clear just one rally.
