Wednesday arrives with the kind of baseball schedule that never really pauses: the Mariners and Orioles will face off to settle both a three-game set and their season series.

By 1:10 p.m. PDT, the game is already framed around who’s ready to go—and who isn’t. Bryan Woo gets the start for the Mariners. and he’ll be pitching at home in T-Mobile Park. the familiar setting he likely prefers. This season, Woo’s home/away numbers have swung dramatically: he has a 2.07 FIP in Seattle, compared to 4.28 everywhere else. It’s a real difference. especially with Baltimore’s recent edge lingering—Woo was shelled for seven runs in his last start in Baltimore. a week ago.

Shane Baz will be on the mound for the Orioles. Seattle didn’t see him during their four-game set last week, so Wednesday doubles as a new matchup rather than a rematch.

The Mariners’ lineup has its own adjustments. Josh Naylor is back after missing a couple of games with a wrist issue, and he’ll be monitored closely to see how his body responds. Mitch Garver will catch, while Cal Raleigh gets a DH day in his third game back from the injured list.

The biggest storyline, though, may be the one that starts as a rest plan and could turn into a late bonus. Julio Rodríguez is being given a rest day after leaving last night’s game with a hamstring spasm. He could still be available off the bench, and he was active during pregame today.

Luke Raley’s status is also in motion, but for a different reason. He’s been dealing with back tightness, yet it’s the flu that’s now keeping him away from the team. Raley is expected back at the ballpark tomorrow.

Not everything is about the position players. Cooper Criswell received a PRP injection today and is expected to be down 2-3 weeks before he can begin building back up for a return to the roster.

First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. PDT.

TV is Mariners.TV, with Aaron Goldsmith and Angie Mentink, plus sideline reporter Ryan Rowland-Smith. Radio coverage on 710 AM Seattle Sports includes Rick Rizzs and Shannon Drayer.

  1. I don’t get why they’d rest Julio after a hamstring spasm… just play him and hope. Also Naylor being back is cool but “monitored closely” sounds scary.

  2. Wait, didn’t they already play the Orioles last week? So this is like a rematch but not a rematch? Baseball schedules confuse me. Woo got shelled for seven runs last time, so seems obvious he’s gonna get rocked again.

  3. Cal Raleigh DH day again? Back from the IL and now he’s just not in the lineup… sounds like the team’s managing for tomorrow instead of winning today. And Luke Raley has flu now?? like wow. PRP injection too?? feels like half the roster is “expected back tomorrow” but never actually shows.
