Marbella brothers win double Spain karate titles in Tarragona

Pride, dedication and years of hard work came together in Tarragona when Marbella brothers Zeyn and Zeki Müller Mohamdi were crowned double Champions of Spain at the 2026 Campeonato de España de Clubes. Their latest triumph brings their dream of representing Spain at the European and World Championships one step closer. Zeyn, aged 12, and Zeki, aged 9, excelled in their individual categories to each take home the gold in both the Team Kata x3 and Team Kata x6 events in Tarragona, completing a memorable

weekend for the family, their coaches and teammates at Olympic Marbella. From Marbella beginnings to national success Born and raised in Marbella to an Algerian-German family, both brothers began karate at a very young age. Zeyn started at just four years old and Zeki, inspired by his older brother, followed even younger at three. Training at Olympic Marbella under Senseis Fernando Reguera and Alejandra Medero, karate quickly became much more than an after-school activity. “Karate is their life,” said their mother, Samia to EWN, “of

course it’s hard at times, but they wouldn’t have it any other way. They have an amazing group of friends there, an amazing team mentality and they have a lot of fun too. Olympic Marbella is like a family.” Competing in the youth category, Zeyn recently claimed the title of Spanish National Champion 2026 in an individual competition, becoming Champion of Spain for the third time in his young career. Incredibly strong performances have also followed for Zeki. He was crowned Spanish National Runner-Up in

2025 in the Alevin category. Following his move into Infantil competition, he also sits in the top section of his category, placing himself well amongst the highest level for his age group in Spain Juggling studies with busy training schedule Zeyn, currently in secondary school, and Zeki in primary, both possess the strong dedication to balance studies and high level sport training. Championship periods occupy much of their year, meaning daily and regular weekend training sessions. Quieter periods are rare, in these periods both boys

still train four times a week, which they love. “I am so proud of them for being so committed and disciplined at such a young age,” said Samia. “Karate isn’t only about technique. It teaches mindset, perseverance and how to get up when you fail and keep going. Those lessons help them with their studies and with life in general. All of this is thanks to their Senseis. I will always support them.” It’s not only local practice, The Spanish National Karate Federation has asked

them on occasion to train across different areas of the country. This is a huge compliment, given that only athletes with exceptional talent are asked, in the hope that when they move up the various stages in their sporting journey, they can be counted on to represent their country when the time comes. Looking back, she never imagined where that first karate lesson would lead. “When I first put Zeyn into karate at the age of four, I had no idea it would come to

this. Then Zeki came in and followed naturally in his brother’s footsteps, pretty much growing up on the tatami.” Next step, eyes on Europe and the rest of the world Now summer is here bringing a brief opportunity to rest and recharge before pre-season training begins, with focus turning to the National Leagues, such as the Youth League and the International championships later in the year. The boys certainly have big dreams for the future, their goal to represent Spain in both the European and

World Championship’s. A target that drives them forward. Judging by their achievements so far, Marbella and the rest of Spain may very well be watching the early stages of two major international karate stars.
