Enzo Fernandez signing: Will he play?

Manchester City completed a British transfer-record-tying deal for Enzo Fernandez earlier this week, paying Chelsea roughly $169 million (£125 million) for the Argentina international, matching the fee Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last summer. The 25-year-old World Cup winner reunites with former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, now in charge at the Etihad, and has signed a five-year deal through 2031.

Fernandez is in line to make his City debut against Coventry, according to multiple projected lineups, and is expected to start alongside fellow deadline-day arrival Elliot Anderson in central midfield. He’ll wear No. 17, the number long associated with club legend Kevin De Bruyne.

Last week, Manchester City routed Crystal Palace 4-1 on the road. Erling Haaland opened the scoring early and Rayan Cherki scored twice in a standout individual performance.

On the other side, Coventry most recently lost 1-0 at home to Hull City on Aug. 29. The Sky Blues battled in front of an electric crowd at the Coventry Building Society Arena but were caught by an 82nd-minute counterattack goal from Liam Millar. That follows a 3-0 loss at Arsenal on opening day.
