Man, 102, dies after being ‘pushed off pub stage’ when he asked for music to be turned down
Philip Ormerod, a 102-year-old great-grandfather with dementia, died after being allegedly pushed off a stage at his local pub because he asked for the music volume to be lowered.
Ormerod suffered a broken hip after the August 1 incident at the Crow’s Nest pub in Cwmbran, Torfaen (a county borough in Wales). After nearly two weeks of being hospitalized, he died on August 12.

According to the BBC’s August 13 report, Ormerod had visited the pub for a drink before he went onto the stage to complain about the music’s loudness.
His son, Robert, said his father “just asked them to turn the music down.” Robert claimed his father turned around to leave the stage when someone allegedly pushed him, causing him to suffer a broken hip.
Robert made it clear that he wanted “justice.” He also reflected on “what the world is coming to” since the person must have known that Philip was an elderly person.
“He was in hospital, suffering, for a week-and-a-half. It’s not nice,” Robert said. He also described his father as a “pub character” who regularly visited the Crow’s Nest.
He would go to the pub two or three times a week and sometimes had young people buy him beers. After Robert’s mother died 40 years ago, Philip lived alone and received a dementia diagnosis two or three years earlier.
New details about Philip Ormerod’s death emerge
BBC reported more details from an inquest into Ormerod’s death.
Senior coroner Caroline Saunders alleged that the former design engineer “sustained a fall at the pub” after “an allegation that he was pushed.”
Police continue to investigate his death and forensic post-mortem examinations have been conducted. The inquest has been adjourned while the criminal investigation continues.
A 56-year-old man from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm. At the time of the outlet’s report, the person remained on bail under investigation.
The coroner said the inquest would not resume if prosecutors bring a criminal case. If authorities need to reach a conclusion, the hearing will take place on May 26, 2027.
Gwent Police has also asked anyone who visited the pub on the night of the incident to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Comley urged the public to “consider the impact that inaccurate or speculative comments,” including “online commentary,” could have as the investigation continues.
