Sandro Mamukelashvili didn’t wait long to make Toronto regret the cheap price tag.

The 27-year-old has agreed to a four-year. $52 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. with a player option for the fourth season built into the contract. It’s a clear step up from the deal he earned just last summer with the Raptors—a two-year minimum contract that quickly stopped looking like a bargain for anyone other than the Raptors’ front office.

When Mamukelashvili joined Toronto, he was initially paid an average of $2.6 million per season. He then outplayed that number, producing career highs across the board over 80 games (including 13 starts). He averaged 11.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists, while shooting 38.9% from beyond the arc.

That kind of jump didn’t just show up on a stat sheet—it changed the direction of his next contract. Mamukelashvili entered this off-season with a player option of $2.8 million to return to the Raptors. but instead he secured a much larger raise to join the Lakers on an agreement reportedly worth $13 million AAV.

His NBA path has been anything but linear. Mamukelashvili began his career with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021 after a draft night trade in which the Indiana Pacers selected him 54th overall. In Milwaukee he spent time on a two-way contract before being waived in 2023. He was then picked up by the San Antonio Spurs as a depth piece before moving to Toronto in 2025.

Across 271 career games over five seasons, Mamukelashvili has averaged seven points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists, shooting 36.6% from three. The Raptors run, with its 38.9% clip and the leap to 11.2 points, is what turned his “supporting” resume into something with real leverage.

Now he’s heading to a Lakers roster that has already started reshaping itself after saying goodbye to LeBron James. The team has reportedly welcomed Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton, with Mamukelashvili set to fit alongside the dynamic backcourt of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

The most striking part of the story is how quickly Mamukelashvili’s value escalated—from a $2.6 million AAV deal that didn’t match what he was doing on the floor. to a four-year commitment worth $52 million with a player option for the fourth season. now placing him in Los Angeles at a time when the franchise is actively building a new identity.
