Local authorities in Sohag Governorate have officially launched a major road improvement and maintenance project aimed at reducing daily traffic congestion and improving road safety for residents and travelers.

The project includes resurfacing damaged roads, installing new traffic signs, improving street lighting, and expanding several crowded intersections across the city. Officials stated that the development plan is part of a larger infrastructure initiative designed to support economic activity and improve transportation services in Upper Egypt.

Residents welcomed the announcement, saying that many roads in the area have suffered from heavy traffic and poor maintenance for years. Shop owners near the construction zones said they hope the project will increase business activity once completed.

According to local engineers supervising the work, the first phase of the project is expected to be completed within three months, while additional phases may continue through the end of the year depending on funding and weather conditions.

Authorities also urged drivers to follow temporary traffic instructions and use alternative routes during construction periods to avoid delays.

Several citizens shared photos and videos from the project launch ceremony and early construction activities on social media, expressing optimism about the future impact of the development works.

The governorate confirmed that safety measures are being monitored continuously and that emergency access routes will remain open throughout the construction process.
