Mailata: Brown trade “sounds terrible” — now it’s over
Jordan Mailata said the Philadelphia Eagles can finally move on after the A.J. Brown trade to the Patriots was executed, describing the uncertainty of his status as a “slow pain” during the offseason.
All offseason, Philadelphia’s A.J. Brown trade rumors hung over the Eagles like a question nobody wanted to answer out loud. Now that the deal with the Patriots has been executed, Jordan Mailata says the team can stop circling the uncertainty and get back to building.
Mailata. the Eagles’ left tackle. spoke to reporters on Tuesday and said the timing matters: “Yes. we can move on now. ” he said. via Zach Berman of TheAthletic.com. “I think most of us that have been here the last six weeks. we have moved on. just from. we have enough to worry about. Getting over last year. and then coming in here and learning a new scheme and new concepts. like we had to press on. So that’s what we were doing.”.
What he couldn’t move past—at least not quickly—was the feeling of not knowing. Mailata put it plainly. calling it something that sounded awful but needed to end: “I think this is more of a — it sounds terrible — but like. thank God it’s over. It was a slow pain of just, is he in, is he out?. We didn’t really know, and that really wasn’t our focus as a team, our team, especially on offense. But we got to keep these wheels moving. we got new guys coming in. we got rookies coming in again. we got to build that culture every year.”.
The Eagles’ offense has already been going through changes this offseason. and with the trade now completed. Mailata’s message was that the group can lock in toward what comes next. With the constant question of A.J. Brown’s status finally gone. the unit can shift its attention fully to the future—new faces. new learning. and the work of building something that lasts.
