Mahomes posts cryptic clock as Chiefs near OTAs

The Kansas City Chiefs are days away from OTAs, and Patrick Mahomes’ latest Instagram activity has already turned into league-wide chatter.

On Sunday, the two-time league MVP posted multiple in-game photos to his Instagram account. The caption was short—just a clock emoji. There were no medical details, no explanation of where he stands in his rehab, only a message fans couldn’t help but read as timing.

The timing matters because Mahomes’ injury is very specific, and it’s still fresh. On December 14, 2025, he suffered a torn ACL and LCL late during the Chiefs’ Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He continues to rehab, and he is reportedly ahead of schedule with his recovery.

Just as important, Mahomes hasn’t kept his comeback talk separate from his real life. He recently posted a video swinging a golf club at his charity tournament in Las Vegas. The movement wasn’t explained as a milestone on a timeline. but it offered the kind of detail people look for when they’re searching for signs.

Over the weekend, Mahomes also showed up for another cause with his family while still supporting the NWSL’s KC Current. He remains active in ways that look like more than social media—small glimpses of routine that fans connect back to the bigger question: when will he be back on the field?

The goal both he and the Chiefs are working toward is clear. Mahomes and the Chiefs hope to be on target to start Week 1 against the Denver Broncos on September 14.

For now, the clock emoji is doing most of the work. It doesn’t confirm anything new. It just keeps the same possibility in the foreground: that the wait could be shorter than many expected, even as the calendar moves toward the first meaningful offseason steps.

  1. I don’t even know what OTAs means but if he’s swinging a golf club then he should be playing. These teams always “ahead of schedule” until game day.

  2. Did he tear BOTH ACL and LCL? Like that’s wild. But also people read into the smallest stuff like that clock emoji and it’s like… bro just postin a pic. Still kinda feel like he’ll miss Week 1 though just because injuries don’t care about emojis.

  3. Mahomes really out here doing charity stuff while recovering, love that. But I swear I saw somewhere the injury was in the Chargers game like late season, so if he was “ahead of schedule” then how come OTAs even matter? Maybe he’s trying to trick people with the clock so the Broncos don’t prep. Also KC Current… wait is that soccer? idk I just want him healthy.
