Magic Johnson praises Kelsey Plum after Aces win

The Los Angeles Sparks are rounding into form early in the 2026 season. Kelsey Plum has been on a tear to start the season, helping the Sparks win back-to-back games. She just received some recognition from one legendary basketball player. NBA legend Magic Johnson gave Plum a shout out on social media after her incredible game against the Aces. “My Los Angeles Sparks beat the Aces on the road in Las Vegas 101-95! They were led by Sparks superstar Kelsey Plum with 38 points, but
it was a total team effort,” Johnson wrote on Saturday. “Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink both had 16 points, and I was very impressed with Brink’s play tonight – she will be a key player for us to have a good season! Ariel Atkins had 11 points, Rae Burrell and Erica Wheeler both scored 10 points and Wheeler hit a big three pointer down the stretch to seal the win for us. What makes this win so special is that they did it without a
big part of their team, Nneka Ogwumike, who did not play tonight.” Plum played incredible well against Las Vegas on Saturday. She scored a season-high 38 points with nine assists and four rebounds in 37 minutes on the court. The veteran guard explained that her goals for the rest of the season go beyond simply scoring a lot of points. Plum wants to maintain her efficiency, too. “My dream would be to go 50-40-90. I know that’s going to be tough,” Plum said. “I didn’t
know the free-throw’s were going to be kicking my a** right now.” That means shooting 50% from the field, 40% from behind the 3-point line, and 90% from the free throw line. She is pacing well towards that goal so far. However, Plum will need to improve her free throw percentage of 82.9% on the season. Next up for the Sparks is a road game against the Mystics on Friday, May 29th at 7:30PM ET.
