Madhav Tiwari: DC’s fast all-rounder shines vs PBKS

Madhav Tiwari earned his maiden IPL wicket on debut in 2026, dismissing Priyansh Arya in a must-win match for Delhi Capitals.
A surprise slot in Delhi Capitals’ XI turned into a defining moment at Dharamsala on Monday, when 21-year-old Madhav Tiwari immediately troubled Priyansh Arya in IPL 2026.
Delhi Capitals needed results in their crucial match against Punjab Kings, and they made five changes to the playing XI.. Among them was Tiwari, recalled to the side for his first appearance of the season.. With the ball in his first IPL outing of 2026, the fast-bowling all-rounder showed tight control against Arya’s attacking intent.
From the opening phase of his spell. Tiwari tested the PBKS batter with a sharp short ball that zipped past him.. Arya answered with confidence on the very next delivery, lofting one over extra cover for four.. But the match quickly shifted back in Tiwari’s favour when he returned with another short ball. this time placed more precisely.
The change in length paid off. Tiwari induced a mistimed shot from Arya, who sliced the ball towards deep cover. Sahil Parakh was positioned well and completed the catch safely, handing Tiwari his maiden IPL wicket and delivering a major breakthrough for DC.
Arya’s dismissal punctured a fast start. He departed after a blistering 56 off 33 balls, striking for two fours and six sixes. Still, the wicket mattered in a must-win context, and Tiwari’s impact became one of the talking points even in the middle of the contest.
So who is Madhav Tiwari, the pace-bowling all-rounder now on a larger IPL radar? Born on September 28, 2003, in Mauganj village in Madhya Pradesh, he is seen as one of the promising pace all-rounders emerging from the state.
While he had not yet built a record of senior domestic experience. Tiwari was able to earn an IPL contract by performing in age-group and franchise-level competitions.. Delhi Capitals purchased him for INR 40 lakh during the IPL 2025 mega auction. and the franchise later retained him for the 2026 season. signalling belief in his development.
He previously made his IPL debut in 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, batting at No. 8 for three runs before being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah. However, that match did not give him a chance to bowl, making Monday’s spell his first real statement with the ball in IPL 2026.
Tiwari has also represented Madhya Pradesh at the U-19 and U-23 levels, and he featured in the 2024-25 CK Nayudu Trophy. In that tournament, he impressed with two half-centuries, including an 83 against Mumbai when Madhya Pradesh were in trouble at 183/6 and still following on.
Beyond state cricket. he played for Bhopal Leopards in the Madhya Pradesh T20 League. sharing the competition with Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Aniket Verma.. Bhopal Leopards were captained by Gujarat Titans pacer Arshad Khan. and the campaign helped Tiwari sharpen his skills as both a bowler and a lower-order hitter.
Known for his raw pace and aggressive hitting in the lower order, Tiwari had a productive stretch in the Madhya Pradesh T20 League. He scored 108 runs from five innings at a strike rate of 180, including a 31-ball 65 in the semi-final against Rewa Jaguars that helped Bhopal Leopards reach the final.
Although he has yet to make his First-Class or List-A debut. Tiwari’s breakthrough against Punjab Kings has already pulled him into the spotlight with a performance built on discipline at the right moment.. For DC. it also underlines how quickly a young all-rounder can swing a match by giving the bowling attack something different—especially when the opposition’s momentum depends on big-hitting set batters.
