MacBook discounts surge as Apple raises prices

MacBook deals – Apple has raised prices on Macs and iPads, citing higher memory-chip costs—right during Amazon Prime Day. That shift has made a handful of existing MacBook sales look dramatically better against Apple’s new MSRP, with some retailers still showing older prices
By the time shoppers realized Apple was changing Mac and iPad prices, the deals already on the page were suddenly looking like something else entirely.
Apple raised prices on Macs and iPads “in response to the rising costs of memory chips,” and it happened in the middle of Amazon Prime Day. The immediate effect is that previously listed discounts on Apple laptops can look far bigger once you compare them to Apple’s upcoming full retail pricing.
One example shows the scale of the shift. The 13-inch MacBook Air M5 that used to start at $1,099 is currently on sale for $949.99 at Costco. Under Apple’s revised pricing. that configuration is set to carry a full retail price of $1. 299—turning what looked like a $150 discount into a $350 savings versus the new MSRP.
There’s no promise those older deal pages will stay locked at the same numbers. There’s also no official word on when major laptop retailers will reset all their Mac pricing to match Apple’s increases. Best Buy and B&H Photo have already updated their pricing. but some older prices—and even cheaper deals—are lingering at Amazon. Costco lists its member-only deals as valid through June 26th or 27th.
If you’ve been weighing an Apple laptop purchase, the message is simple: make the move while some retailers still reflect the old pricing, because the comparison point just changed.
Among Apple’s offers, the MacBook Neo is the lowest entry point mentioned in the roundup. The base 256GB MacBook Neo is selling for $589.99 at Amazon and Costco in the citrus color only. The article notes that would normally be “a paltry $10 discount. ” but because Apple is raising the Neo’s base price to $699. the deal becomes a savings of $110. The 512GB version with Touch ID is $689.99 (a $110 discount versus the new $799 price) at Amazon and Costco. Best Buy still lists the base 256GB model and the 512GB model for the old prices of $599 and $699. respectively. which the story says at least keeps you from paying the $100 price increase—for now.
Next comes the 2026 MacBook Air with an M5 chip. The base 13-inch MacBook Air with an M5 chip. 16GB of memory. and 512GB of storage is $949 at Amazon. Best Buy. and Costco. The roundup contrasts that with Apple’s new $1,299 pricing and emphasizes that Costco requires a membership for the $949 deal. A 13-inch Air with two more GPU cores and 1TB of storage is $1. 149.99. listed as $449 off the new price at Amazon. The 15-inch Air with the base 16GB/512GB configuration is on sale for $1. 149.99 as well at Amazon. Best Buy. and Costco. again framed as $350 off the new price.
For people who want a step up from the Air. the 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 chip is positioned as a sweet spot for frequent content creation. The roundup says the base 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 chip is on sale for $1. 549.99—$450 off Apple’s new MSRP—at Amazon. Best Buy. and Costco. It also spells out what’s included: all-day battery life and a 12-megapixel webcam. plus an M5 chip. faster storage. and a 10-core CPU / 10-core GPU that’s up to 3.5x faster at AI tasks. The story adds that the revised 2026 base model comes with 16GB of RAM. 1TB of faster storage. and lots of ports. but that paying Apple’s new price of $1. 999 makes it “much less attainable” than before.
Above that are the M5 Pro and M5 Max versions, available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. The article lists base pricing under Apple’s new numbers and what shoppers can buy for right now. For the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro (15-core CPU / 16-core GPU. 24GB. 1TB). the current price is $2. 049.99—$449 off the new price of $2. 499—at Amazon and Best Buy. The 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro (18-core CPU / 20-core GPU. 24GB. 1TB) is $2. 549.99—$449 off the new price of $2. 999—at Amazon.
For the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max (18-core CPU / 32-core GPU. 36GB. 2TB). the current price is $3. 299.99—$800 off the new price of $4. 099—at Amazon. The 16-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max (18-core CPU / 32-core GPU. 36GB. 2TB) is $3. 649.99—$750 off the new price of $4. 399—at Amazon. The roundup also notes that there are many configurations beyond these base setups. with RAM and storage upgrades that can climb to “crazy amounts. ” and it doesn’t attempt to list them all.
Outside laptops, the roundup turns to Apple’s 2024 iMac. It says the latest version of Apple’s all-in-one desktop computer features an M4 chip and support for Apple Intelligence. and that the base model now offers 16GB RAM by default along with a new 12-megapixel webcam. The 2024 M4 iMac goes from a starting price of $1,299 to $1,499. Still. the story says you can get a base model with an 8-core M4 chip. 16GB of memory. and 256GB SSD in various colors for $1. 149.99—$350 off the new price—at Amazon. Best Buy. and Costco. It also lists a 10-core M4 iMac with four Thunderbolt 4 ports instead of two for $1. 349.99—$350 off the new price—at Best Buy and Costco.
The piece ends with a housekeeping note dated June 26th: a revised copy where applicable to reflect that some retailers have transitioned to Apple’s new pricing. Deals or old pricing no longer available were removed or struck, and the headline was changed. It also includes the author’s follow/tags for Apple. Deals. Gadgets. Laptops. Prime Day. Tech. and Verge Shopping—along with an update stating the story will appear in a daily email digest and personalized homepage feed.

So basically Apple raised prices then stores look “cheaper”??
I swear these deals are just math tricks. Like you think you’re saving $150 but it’s actually saving vs whatever Apple decided to do that week. Still though, $949 at Costco is tempting.
Wait the “MacBook Air M5” thing… isn’t that future tech? lol. Also memory chips cost more so prices go up mid-Prime Day, and then everyone pretends it’s a discount—seems kinda scummy.
Amazon’s always playing games. They’ll “update” the price tomorrow and the deal will vanish like it never existed. I don’t trust it, but I also might grab one at Costco just in case because Prime Day makes everyone act like the timing matters. The Neo at $589?? That sounds fake low, like they’re gonna raise that too.
