LSU’s Lane Kiffin lands Trey Martin, beats Ole Miss

Four-star running back Trey Martin, from Winnsboro, Louisiana, committed to LSU over Ole Miss and Florida, giving Lane Kiffin a recruiting win against the Rebels that he left in controversial fashion before last season’s playoff run.

Martin is a 5-foot-10, 200-pound back from Winnsboro, Louisiana, and he belongs to the class of 2027. Multiple recruiting services rate him as a four-star prospect.

For Kiffin, the decision carries extra weight because Martin was also targeted by his former employer. The Rebels were chasing the same player, and Martin’s choice means Kiffin’s LSU staff gets the kind of result fans remember—beating the team that once had him in the same recruiting conversations.

Martin’s message to Fawcett captured the feel of the moment: “The best in the boot stays inna boot.”

The backdrop only intensifies the story. Kiffin joined LSU after leaving Ole Miss in controversial fashion before the season ended. taking the head coaching job in Baton Rouge and replacing Brian Kelly. During Ole Miss’ playoff run last year. Kiffin had expressed a desire to keep coaching through the tournament. but the school ultimately shot down that request. Over the last seven months. LSU’s new head coach has watched the backlash and vitriol aimed at him from Ole Miss grow into something hard to miss.

So when Martin picked LSU, it wasn’t just another recruiting tick in a busy offseason—it was a clean separation, a reminder that relationships can end, but recruiting boards still decide who gets the final say.

LSU, meanwhile, is already building toward next year’s big spotlight: Kiffin and LSU are expected to play a road game in Oxford next season, putting the story in full view on the field.

And in the middle of all the emotion, the simple fact remains: a four-star running back from Winnsboro, Louisiana—Trey Martin, class of 2027—chose the Tigers over Ole Miss and Florida.

  1. Wait so he “left Ole Miss” mid-playoff run? That seems messy. Also 2026 season months away but people acting like it already happened.

  2. I don’t get why Ole Miss is mad if Kiffin already left… like recruiting is recruiting. But also Trey Martin saying “best in the boot stays inna boot” sounds like a slogan, not a plan? Idk I’m just happy LSU got someone from Louisiana.

  3. This is lowkey petty in the best way? Like Kiffin used to be there then they tried to block him from coaching through the tournament or whatever and now he lands the RB. I guess the road game in Oxford next year will settle it?? Or maybe it’s all just recruiting hype and none of it matters till the NFL draft.
