LSU football alum Jayden Daniels not included in ‘NFLSU’ pregame hype video after cease-and-desist
Former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels’ cease-and-desist letter led to a surprising turn of events for LSU’s game vs. Clemson.
The LSU Tigers took on their namesake from the ACC, the Clemson Tigers, on Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with fans witnessing a blowout at Tiger Stadium sparked by a Jordan Ross pick-six. LSU’s offensive explosion against Dabo Swinney’s Clemson team was reminiscent of former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels’ time on campus as LSU led 51-10 late in the fourth quarter.
Daniels, now with the NFL’s Washington Commanders, sent a cease-and-desist letter to his alma mater’s athletic director Verge Ausberry on August 5 after finding out that LSU allowed sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett to wear his familiar No. 5 jersey number. And on Saturday night, Daniels was noticeably absent from LSU’s ‘NFLSU’ pregame hype video.

Daniels started his college football career with the Arizona State Sun Devils, where he played for three seasons before transferring to LSU before the 2022 season. He passed for 2,913 yards in his first season with LSU leading up to his legendary 2023 campaign, when he passed for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdown passes with just four interceptions.
Daniels’ cease-and-desist letter has been a hot topic in the college football world, including in Baton Rouge, where a seven-year-old fan roasted Daniels with a well-placed sign on ESPN’s College GameDay pregame show Saturday morning.
LSU started another former Arizona State quarterback, Sam Leavitt, on Saturday night, and he made the most of his opportunity with 230 yards passing and a touchdown to go along with 113 yards rushing and two touchdowns for coach Lane Kiffin’s team before being taken out of the game. If Leavitt, Kiffin, and LSU continue to play the way they did on Saturday, a national championship is possible, which would go a long way toward erasing the sting of Daniels’ stance against his former team.
