ITV America and Peacock confirmed that executive producer James Barker died while working on season 8 of Love Island USA in Fiji. Barker was 40 years old, and ITV America and Peacock said the news came just days ago as the production continues.
In a statement shared with NBC News. ITV America and Peacock said Barker’s loss was “deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production. but throughout all of ITV and Peacock.” The networks described him as “a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family” whose kindness. talent. and dedication left “an indelible mark” on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. They extended “heartfelt condolences to James’ family, friends and colleagues.”.
Barker will be honored in the June 16, 2026, episode of Love Island USA.
Barker had been central to the Peacock series behind the scenes as an executive producer. Before joining the Love Island franchise. he built a career that included work as a producer on Counting Cars and Pawn Stars. and he was also a producer on Queer Eye. ITV and Peacock further said Barker spent 20 years DJing around the country.
The networks’ statement gave few details about how it happened. ITV and Peacock said Barker died a week prior, following an “unexpected medical emergency” in Fiji. No other information about the circumstances was included at the time of publication.
His partner. Adam Roth. shared a statement with NBC News. describing Barker as “the absolute light and love of my life.” Roth said: “He brought joy and brilliance to everything he touched. ” and added that Barker “was such a champion of the community of young music artists he was able to introduce to audiences on Love Island.”.
Roth also said he was “so proud of the work he did” and that Barker “was surrounded by such an amazing team.” He called the loss “unimaginable,” then added: “While it was not enough, I am so thankful for the time we had and the memories we made together.”

Adam Roth said he was “the absolute light and love of my life” so I’m assuming it was like a breakup? Idk the article is vague. Love Island always seems chaotic behind the scenes and then someone just disappears. Hope they release more details.
I used to watch that dude on Pawn Stars/Counting Cars and then he’s executive producing Love Island?? That’s wild. But also Fiji… why are they always shipping people to islands for seasons like that? If it was a medical emergency, hopefully production had the basics. Terrible news anyway, 40 is way too young.
