At the end of Tuesday’s episode of Love Island USA, the show paused its usual momentum to honor its executive producer following his death in Fiji last week.
The tribute montage featured pictures of Barker with his partner, Adam Roth, as well as solo shots spanning Barker’s life. The tribute closed the episode with the message “James Barker, We Love You.”
Barker’s passing was described earlier as the result of an unexpected medical emergency while production on Season 8 was underway in Fiji. ITV America and Peacock said the emergency was unexpected.
In a statement shared to TMZ. ITV America and Peacock said. “James’ unimaginable loss has been deeply felt across not just the entire Love Island USA production. but throughout all of ITV and Peacock.” They added that he was “a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness. talent and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. ” and extended condolences to “James’ partner. family. friends and colleagues.”.
Roth also shared a tribute after Barker’s death. He called James “the absolute light and love of my life” and said he “brought joy and brilliance to everything he touched.”
Barker joined the Love Island USA franchise in 2020 as a story producer, working his way up to executive producer. He held that role for the last three seasons, playing a major role in both production and post-production.
With Season 8 in motion and Barker’s absence now being felt across the production, Tuesday’s tribute landed as a public moment of goodbye from the show that he helped shape behind the scenes.

I saw something on TikTok and it said he got sick from like… the water or something, idk if that’s true. But if they’re honoring him, why not say more? Also Adam Roth is really in the show world, so heartbreaking
Love Island doing tributes is nice but also it makes me think they might’ve rushed the episode out to keep ratings up. Like “paused momentum” for a few seconds then back to drama, idk. Still condolences though
