Fair City star Rebecca Grimes has teased that lots more drama is on the way for James and Hayley. Rebecca has been playing fan favourite Hayley Collins on the long running RTÉ soap opera since 2015, and her character has always been involved in some form of drama. Now married to James Rafferty, played by Matthew O’Brien , life is never plain sailing for the pair. Between the murder of her father, Anto, learning that James had secretly fathered a child, and more lies and
deceit than you can dream of, Hayley has probably endured more drama than any other Carrigstown resident in recent years. Currently, James and Hayley are working together to plot against Holly – who is the mother of James’ son Milo – following her promotion in the Rafferty family business. But, in true soap fashion, things never run smoothly. James and Hayley never seem to catch a break, and actress Rebecca agrees. She told RSVP Live: “I feel like James and Hayley have every opportunity to
get it right and they just make terrible decisions every time. “It seems like they are always presented with two roads to take, and they always choose the wrong one. “It’s like, would you just do the right thing for once?” But working alongside co-star Matthew in such a complex relationship is great fun for Rebecca. She added: “It’s always so much fun, and I absolutely love the dynamic between Hayley and James. “As a couple, they are really dramatic and tumultuous and never boring.
So there is always so much fun to have with them.” Rebecca first joined the cast of Fair City in January 2015, and says the constantly evolving stories mean she is never bored at work. “Hayley is just a really fun character to play,” she said. “There is always so much excitement, it’s always high drama and there is always something fun and meaty to get stuck into. “She’s never boring, the storylines change so fast and there is always something new around the corner.
“That’s what keeps it interesting.” Away from work, Rebecca is a loving wife to husband Paul and a doting mum to their 18-month-old daughter, Dara. The family recently jetted off on a summer holiday, but things didn’t quite go to plan. Rebecca explained: “We are just back from Italy for seven days which I was so excited about. “I booked it as a surprise trip for my husband’s birthday and didn’t tell him where we were going until the morning of and he was so
excited. “When I tell you it lashed rain every single day – it was so disappointing! “That has never happened to me with a holiday abroad. I came back home feeling really hard done by. “We were staying in a chalet in Lake Garda in the lashing rain and thunderstorms, miles away from anywhere, trekking around in the rain – it certainly was one to remember.” After a couple of weeks off filming, Rebecca is heading back to Fair City and has teased a dramatic
summer ahead for Hayley. She said: “I’m back filming next week and that takes me through the rest of the summer. “I’m looking forward to getting stuck into a big chunk of work and we’ll see, maybe I’ll have a late summer jaunt, but who knows, I was lucky to get away at all. “But there is a lot of drama ahead for Hayley. I can’t imagine the road ahead being too smooth for her. It never is!” Fair City airs four nights a week
