Long Island yearbook quote fuels Knicks Finals buzz

Knicks in – A Smithtown superfan’s 2020 high school yearbook quote predicting a Knicks NBA Finals win has come back into focus—six years later—as fans on Long Island talk parade plans and a “when” the celebration cake arrives.
On a piece of paper he filled out as a teenager, Evan Pfeufer left himself a message that sounded like a dare. In his 2020 high school yearbook, Pfeufer wrote a prediction that the Knicks would win the NBA Finals “in six.”
Pfeufer, a Smithtown resident and a Sachem West graduate, described it as “straight to the point, cold prediction.” He said he intentionally left out the accolades and inspirational lines other students often add, going right for the blunt forecast.
“Mine was just straight to the point, cold prediction,” Pfeufer said.
At the time, he remembered, some people questioned the rhyme. The words may have sounded like a throwaway joke to classmates back then—but six years later, the prediction has gained new life as Knicks fans rally around the idea that “Knicks in six” could be more than just a catchy line.
“Now that I’m getting all this traction from a quote and prediction I made when I was 17 is kind of surreal,” Pfeufer said.
The buzz didn’t stop with the yearbook page. On Long Island, some fans are already talking through what a victory celebration would look like—down to the desserts.
Don Donneruno, from The Cake Don, said his plans aren’t built around the possibility of a parade. They’re built around the certainty of one.
“The day of the parade, there will be a giant celebratory championship cake delivered to wherever the Knicks are having their party,” Donneruno said.
Donneruno, a lifelong Knicks fan, said the bakery is making the moment real with custom work. He said he’s not planning an “if” scenario.
“The Cake Don made a personalized Knicks-themed briefcase cake filled with money for one of the players this week,” Donneruno said.
He pointed to what fans are already buying and sharing—colorful blue and orange cupcakes that have been flying off the shelves. He also framed the team’s appeal less like sports talk and more like city rhythm.
“Like the colorful blue and orange cupcakes that have been flying off the shelves, Donneruno said the Knicks bring people together—and it’s New York forever,” Donneruno said.
And when it comes to the feeling of the city during a winning run, Donneruno didn’t mince words.
“The Knicks were all in it together, and you can feel it—the city is different when the Knicks are winning,” Donneruno said.
