Chicago Public Schools is set to receive a $1.7 million grant from Lollapalooza, money intended to broaden access to arts education in city schools and build new programming over the next five years.

The district and the musical festival organizer announced the grant Sunday. calling it one of the largest financial awards CPS has received for arts education.. The funding is split into two initiatives: $634. 000 is earmarked for All-City Performing Arts. an after-school program for music. dance and theater.. The remaining $1.1 million will go to the Lollapalooza Arts Education Fund. which provides grants to schools for in-school arts programs across artistic disciplines.

“Investing in arts programs for Chicago Public Schools students remains one of the most impactful ways we can help shape Chicago’s future. ” Charlie Walker. an executive from Lollapalooza promoter C3 Presents. said in a statement.. CPS’s arts education department expects the Lollapalooza investments will reach more than 40. 000 students in 150-plus schools over the next five years.

CPS Supt.. Macquline King tied the goals of the new funding to access beyond the school day.. “When students have access to instruments and rehearsal time outside of school. they’re empowered to practice consistently. grow their skills and fully benefit from their performing arts program. ” King said in a statement.

The numbers are mapped to the district’s plan in a clear sequence: $1.7 million is divided between an after-school performing program ($634. 000) and in-school arts grantmaking ($1.1 million). and CPS expects that combined investment to reach more than 40. 000 students in 150-plus schools during the same five-year window.

The announcement lands ahead of this year’s four-day Lollapalooza festival, which returns to Grant Park July 30-Aug. 2. The lineup includes headliners Charli XCX, Smashing Pumpkins, Lorde, John Summit, Olivia Dean and Tate McRae.
