Logan Airport wait times go real-time for travelers

security wait – Massport says travelers can now check live security checkpoint wait times at Logan Airport via the website and FlyLogan app.

A new way to plan your trip is coming to Boston Logan Airport: travelers can now check real-time security checkpoint wait times before heading to the terminals.

Massport announced the technology on Monday. saying it provides a live look at how long lines are and how quickly they are moving at security checkpoints across the airport.. The aim is to help passengers make more informed decisions about when to arrive, reducing uncertainty during the pre-flight scramble.

The digital tool can be accessed through both the Logan website and the FlyLogan mobile app. It was developed with an outside vendor, and Massport said it uses cameras to monitor line length and movement throughout the security areas.

According to the report, the system is designed not to record details about individuals. Instead, it relies on non-descript forms, focusing on line conditions rather than identifying passengers, a distinction Massport is emphasizing as part of the rollout.

The plan was originally scheduled for mid-April, and Massport said the update is now available. The airport’s leadership framed the change as part of a broader effort to improve the overall customer experience for travelers moving through Logan.

Rich Davey, Massport’s chief executive, said providing passengers with a smooth and predictable travel experience is a top priority.. He also said Logan currently has some of the lowest wait times in the country. and that sharing those conditions live would give travelers another tool to plan their trips and navigate the airport more easily.

Massport noted that the approach is not entirely new to major U.S. airports. Similar systems are already in place at airports in Denver and Atlanta, indicating that the technology is part of a wider shift toward real-time passenger information at busy travel hubs.

Beyond the new waiting-times feature, Logan’s performance in passenger satisfaction has also been in focus.. The airport ranked No.. 10 in the 20th annual J.D.. Power 2025 North America Airport Satisfaction Study, which was released in the fall.. The ranking matched its position from 2024, but came with a higher score than the previous year.

That satisfaction result reflects a longer run of improvement as well, with Logan previously listed at No.. 16 in 2023 and No.. 17 in 2022.. For travelers. those rankings matter because they often influence how airports prioritize operational changes like better information tools and smoother flows through crowded checkpoints.

For many passengers, security wait times are one of the biggest variables in trip planning. By making those conditions visible in real time, the tool could help reduce both last-minute arrivals and unnecessary early trips, especially during peak travel periods when line lengths can shift quickly.

It also changes how travelers interact with the airport on the day of travel. Instead of relying only on static guidance or guesses based on past experiences, the new system is built to show current conditions across checkpoints, offering a more dynamic way to decide when to head to security.

At the same time. the technology’s design—using cameras to measure line conditions without recording individual details—signals an effort to balance operational monitoring with privacy considerations.. That matters for passengers who may be more sensitive about how airport systems collect and handle data.

Taken together. the live wait-time feature and the airport’s satisfaction rankings suggest Massport is pushing deeper into passenger-facing improvements. not just infrastructure.. If travelers can plan more confidently. airports may see downstream benefits such as less crowding at security and fewer disruptions caused by unexpected delays.

For now, Logan travelers can check the tool via the Logan website and the FlyLogan app, with the update reflecting current security checkpoint conditions as reported by the system using cameras to track line length and speed.

  1. I flew out of Logan last month and waited like 45 minutes so I dont know what they mean by lowest wait times in the country that is just not true at all. maybe on a tuesday at 4am sure but not when normal people are flying.

  2. this is basically just facial recognition they just dont want to call it that. they say it doesnt record people but how does a camera know how long the line is without looking at the people in it, that doesnt even make sense. denver and atlanta already do this and now boston and nobody asked if we wanted this. i travel for work every single week and honestly the real problem isnt knowing the wait time its that tsa is just slow no matter what app you download that doesnt fix anything. putting a number on a screen doesnt make the line shorter it just makes you stressed earlier.

  3. wait so is this only for logan or all airports in massachusetts cause my sister flies out of worcester and she was asking about something like this the other day and I told her I had no idea.
