Additional testimony is expected Friday in Lindsay Clancy‘s murder trial after jurors heard from a parade of emergency personnel who responded to Clancy’s home the night she killed her children.

The scene at the Clancy home in Duxbury on Jan. 24, 2023, “turned very chaotic very quickly,” Fire Capt. PJ Hussey testified. He and several other firefighters, police officers, and paramedics described rushing to the home on Summer Street after Clancy, now 35, strangled her three children and attempted suicide, paralyzing herself in the process.

Though she does not deny that she killed 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan, Clancy is mounting what’s colloquially known as an insanity defense as she argues she was deep in the throes of postpartum mental illness and heard a voice in her head that instructed her to kill.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington’s description of a young mother desperately trying to get a handle on her mental health stands in stark contrast to prosecutors’ allegation that Clancy acted “deliberately and meticulously” because she no longer liked her life as a mother.

In his opening statement Monday, Reddington described a family home blanketed with toys and children’s belongings, telling jurors his client “loved and nurtured and cared for” her three children even as her mental health worsened.

“She had no motive,” Reddington maintained. “She loved her children. She intended to kill herself; she didn’t fake that.”

Friday’s court proceedings began with jurors visiting several key locations in the case, including Clancy’s former home in Duxbury and a restaurant and CVS where her then-husband ran errands the night of the killings.
