Lions waive Terrion Arnold amid Florida felony cases

Detroit moved on Monday by releasing cornerback Terrion Arnold, a decision that landed in Wednesday’s NFL transactions report and immediately changed the frame around a case already dominating his week.
The league filing notes a claiming deadline of Monday, July 6, at 4:00 p.m. ET. Given Arnold’s situation, it is highly unlikely that another team will step in to claim him given the two-year balance remaining on his first-round rookie contract.
Arnold is not in a normal roster spotlight right now. He is facing eight felony charges in Florida connected to an armed robbery and kidnapping. If he had remained on an NFL roster. he could possibly have been placed on paid leave by the league. but the Lions’ release removes that particular pathway.
That timing also intersects with a return to court scheduled for Monday. Prosecutors have renewed their request that Arnold be required to wear an ankle monitor while he is on home confinement pending trial. A judge previously ruled that he would not be required to wear a tracking device.
Now that Arnold is no longer employed by the Lions. the filing argues there’s no longer any reason to exempt him from the standard practice for defendants released on bond who must stay within their homes. The Monday court date will determine whether this time. the tracking device becomes part of his conditions as the legal process continues.
Terrion Arnold Detroit Lions NFL transactions felony charges Florida armed robbery kidnapping ankle monitor home confinement July 6 claiming deadline
Damn, 8 felonies is wild.
So they just cut him before court… seems like the ankle monitor thing got weird now. I don’t even know how that works tbh.
Wait claiming deadline Monday July 6 at 4pm?? That’s like fantasy league rules lol. But if he’s out of the Lions he can’t get the paid leave thing so now it’s definitely gonna be ankle bracelet, right? Seems like they’re trying to say it’s not about the case, it’s about paperwork.
I feel like the NFL always waits till it’s convenient. Like release him and suddenly the judge is like “oh now he should wear a monitor”?? Also armed robbery and kidnapping is not “just” some mistake. I’m sure another team won’t claim him cause of the contract, but watch somebody still does it just to be edgy.
