Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs would ‘for sure’ take himself No. 1 in Fantasy Football

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was a popular No. 1 overall pick in fantasy football heading into the 2026 campaign. The RB agrees with the choice.  

“For sure,” he said, smirking, when asked if he’d selected himself, via the team’s official website. “I’m either going to make a lot of people happy or mad.”

After splitting reps with David Montgomery for the first three seasons in Detroit, Gibbs is set to star in a solo role in 2026. With veteran Isiah Pacheco beginning the season on IR, the Lions’ top backup options are 2025 undrafted free agent Jacob Saylors (2 career carries) and 2024 fourth-rounder Sione Vaki (7 career carries).

“I guess I’m getting most of the carries,” Gibbs said. “I feel good. It’s nothing I haven’t done before. It’s going to be cool.”

Gibbs saw a snap boost last season, hitting the 713 mark in 2025, via Next Gen Stats. That figure feels significantly lower than what he’s in line for in 2026. The RB took a career-high 320 scrimmage touches for 1,839 yards with 18 total touchdowns.

In a league with few workhorse running backs, Gibbs is a unicorn with the skill set to thrive.
