Lionel Richie says he’s doing well after cancelling two Sing a Song All Night Long Tour dates in Illinois and Ohio, sharing a hopeful update on Instagram while thanking fans for their messages. The tour resumed with Pittsburgh and Detroit on Saturday.

Lionel Richie stepped back into the spotlight with a message to match it—quick, grateful, and clearly meant to reassure the fans who noticed his absence.

On Saturday, July 4, the 77-year-old singer posted on Instagram, thanking everyone who had reached out during his recent illness. “Thank you for every message. every kind word. and for all your love. ” Richie wrote. alongside numerous photos showing him performing on stage. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”.

He added that Pittsburgh and Detroit were “an absolute joy,” describing the “energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd” and saying, “we made real memories together.” Richie looked ahead to what’s next: “See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long.”

Richie had previously been forced to slow down. Late last month, he postponed two Sing a Song All Night Long Tour dates in Illinois and Ohio after illness cut the opening night of the tour short.

A statement shared via the Live Nation Chicago and the United Center in Chicago’s official Instagram accounts on June 25 said. “Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health. Lionel Richie has postponed his show on Friday. June 26. in Chicago. IL. and Saturday. June 27. in Columbus. OH.” The statement also confirmed that he and Earth. Wind & Fire would return to the stage on Tuesday. June 30. in Pittsburgh. PA. It added that Richie was “heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back to performing for his fans.”.

The announcement concluded with an apology to ticket holders: “We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon.”

Richie still has not publicly released additional information about his illness, including any diagnosis or treatment he received. Earlier reporting described what happened during the St. Paul performance on June 24, when he began feeling dizzy. The tour’s opening-night set was halted just under an hour in. when Richie took a seat after singing “Dancing on the Ceiling.” He left the stage. and forty minutes later. his saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to update the crowd. “Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well,” Soldo told fans. “He won’t be able to continue. Additional information will be available.”.
