Lionel Richie Cuts Concert Short After Falling Ill Mid-Performance

Lionel Richie’s Wednesday night performance at the Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul, Minnesota was cut short after he reportedly felt dizzy mid-show, performed one more song, and did not return following an unplanned intermission.

The 77-year-old “Hello” singer was performing at the Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul. Minnesota when he reportedly began feeling dizzy and unwell during his first hour on stage. Multiple concertgoers took to X to document what happened as the show shifted from planned momentum to an abrupt. unfinished ending.

Journalist Patrick Kessler shared footage showing Richie sitting down in the middle of “Dancing on the Ceiling.” Kessler later wrote that Richie said he felt dizzy. performed one more song at the piano—“Three Times a Lady”—and then announced an unplanned intermission. Kessler said Richie did not return after that break.

Other attendees described similar details on X, including a fan who said a band member told the crowd that Richie was “not feeling well” after he failed to come back to the stage.

Richie has not yet formally addressed the incident, and a representative for the singer did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

The Saint Paul stop also marked the opener for Richie’s “Sing A Song All Night Long” joint tour with Earth. Wind & Fire. with the group performing earlier in the evening. Richie appeared energized for the start, posting several times on Instagram in the lead-up to the show. On Tuesday evening. he wrote on his Instagram Stories. “Thank you to everyone in my band and crew for all the hard work. dedication and long hours getting us ready for this tour. ” adding. “It takes an incredible team behind the scenes to make it all happen. and I’m grateful for each and everyone of you. Saint Paul, here we come.”.

Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire are expected to perform at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on Friday. There’s no word yet on whether Wednesday’s interruption will affect that date.

  1. Maybe it was the casino food or something. Like 77 years old and suddenly dizzy… could’ve been dehydration or the lights or whatever. Surprised nobody said it was like meds or something.

  2. I saw the clip of him sitting during “Dancing on the Ceiling” and it looked more like he forgot the next part? Then he played “Three Times a Lady” and took a break, so idk. If he was really dizzy that’s scary but also why didn’t they pause sooner?

  3. This is why I don’t go to shows anymore, they always cut it short and then you’re stuck paying for parking and merch. If he didn’t return after the intermission it’s probably serious. Also Earth Wind & Fire was on stage earlier right? So did the opener just… take over? Not sure.
