Limerick students win top awards at Think B!G Fest

STUDENTS from Limerick Educate Together Secondary School claimed two major prizes at Think B!G Fest in Dublin for projects promoting sustainability and positive mental health. The Climate Action Award supported by SSE Airtricity was won by The Plastics, for their project, Eco Brick, an innovative ecobrick idea made from recyclable plastic that shows how everyday waste can be turned into something useful. The team brought their idea to life through a video, clearly showing both how it works and why it matters. Their project offers
a creative, practical solution that could make a real difference for the environment, turning a global issue into something young people can act on in their own communities. Their project puts a fun and creative twist on student wellbeing that turns everyday school spaces into inclusive karaoke zones. The idea is all about helping students feel more confident, less stressed, and able to
express themselves, using music to bring people together. Their teacher, Conor Power, championed their work Kim Mackenzie-Doyle, CEO of The B!G Idea, said: “The Plastics looked at one of the most overwhelming environmental issues of our time, plastic waste, and instead of feeling defeated by it, they got to work. Their Eco Brick is the kind of practical, hopeful, hands-on response the world urgently needs more of.” She added: “CRADD did something brilliant. They took one of the most pressing issues facing young people today,
mental wellbeing, and answered it with something joyful, communal and entirely their own.”
