Grey’s Anatomy is heading to rural Texas — and Leven Rambin wasted no time making her pitch.
On Wednesday, May 20, the 36-year-old actor posted to Instagram with a sharp mix of disbelief and excitement. “Now, hold on just a minute. Grey’s Anatomy Texas spin-off? Are you kidding me? They were going to try to do a Texas spin-off and not tell me about it? Nope. No, no, no. Mmm, mm.”
Rambin then leaned into the timing. “Shonda [Rhimes], I’m literally in Texas right now,” she added. “This needs to happen. This is perfect. We’ve been manifesting this. I think I’ve manifested a little too close to the sun and got Grey’s Anatomy to come to me.”
The spinoff is already in motion. ABC has ordered a follow-up to Grey’s Anatomy set in rural West Texas. with the upcoming series cocreated. written and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis. Ellen Pompeo, a star of Grey’s Anatomy, is also executive producing, and the show is set to premiere midseason 2027.
Marinis framed it as an expansion of the world audiences already know, while keeping the focus on character-driven stakes. In a statement. she said she’s “incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. ” adding that the opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life “embod[ying] the same heart. emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas.” She also thanked Rhimes for creating the world and said she feels “fortunate” to be part of it.
The creative team has said the series will be built around a new group of doctors, while also being likely connected to Grey’s via one or more characters — potentially Catherine Fox, played by Debbie Allen.
Rambin’s own ties to the Grey’s universe aren’t just fan fiction. She played Mark Sloan’s estranged daughter. Sloan. in Grey’s Anatomy. and she’s currently in another medical drama orbit: she recently played Audrey on CBS’ hit series Fire Country. Her character was written off the show before season 4 came to an end. but Rambin has shown interest in reprising the role.
Separately. Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano spoke to Us Weekly in October 2025 about the show’s approach to deaths. departures. and casting changes. “It’s a fire show. Anyone can go at any time. ” she said. adding that while the program has been losing people. it’s also “adding some really fun guest cast.” Napolitano described it as “a revolving door of people from Sharon’s past and new faces that are exciting to bring conflict and secrets and twists and turns.”.
When asked about the departures of Billy Burke and Stephanie Arcila. Napolitano said the show has tried “thread the needle” of honoring what was lost — specifically mentioning Vince — while still moving forward. “What we’ve done is really thread the needle of honoring — especially Vince — because Gabriella is gone. but she’s gone to a happy and successful life. She’s still out there. But we really walk this line of honoring Vince while also finding hope rather quickly,” she said.
Napolitano continued by pointing to the season’s emotional direction: “Looking forward. the theme of the season is rising from the ashes and recovery.” She added. “How do you recover from something like this?. And we’re really going to see everybody rise to the occasion. in celebration of Vince. of his life and in honoring the sacrifice that he made.”.
For now. though. the most immediate heat is coming from Rambin’s own post: she’s in Texas. she says it “needs to happen. ” and she’s turned the announcement of a Grey’s Texas spinoff into a very public. very personal moment. Whether she’s being subtle or not, the pitch is clear — and so is her timing.
