LeBron James’ teammate sees new penthouse ruined by freak ‘1 in 400 million’ event minutes after signing lease
NBA star Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has seen his luxury penthouse ruined by a bizarre ‘1-in-400-million’ disaster, just moments after his wife signed their lease.
On Friday, Caldwell-Pope’s wife, McKenzie, revealed that their new home in Philadelphia had been struck by lightning and suffered major water damage inside.
In a video posted onto her TikTok page, she recalled the disastrous moving day and revealed that water was left pouring in from the ceiling during the ordeal.
In the clip, McKenzie recalled: ‘Minutes after I sign the lease, you guys, I hear the loudest bang I’ve ever heard in my life.
‘Mind you, we’re on the penthouse floor, we’re on the highest floor, okay?’
She went on to reveal footage from the moving day, showing water cascading down from the ceiling in multiple areas inside their brand new penthouse.

On Sunday, Caldwell-Pope’s wife, McKenzie, revealed the news in a post on her TikTok
McKenzie posted footage that showed the apartment filling with water during the ordeal
She added that the water quickly began flooding the unit and, due to the lightning disabling the elevators, the family were forced to scramble down 14 flights of stairs.
‘I hear the loudest bang, all of a sudden s*** starts shooting out of the ceiling and water is pouring in, dumping in. So everyone just starts screaming, and we’re like, we have to get out of here.’
McKenzie claimed that building staff told her that the flooding, which reached two or three inches inside the unit, had been caused by tripped fire sprinklers.
There was further disaster, however, as the family’s movers supposedly got trapped in an elevator, disabled by the strike, and had to be rescued by firefighters.
She claimed that an electrician later arrived and assessed the situation.
‘So then hours later the electricians come, they’re like trying to fix everything, they turn off the sirens and all that and they say after everyone was denying that I heard what I heard why did the electrician say, ‘Yeah, you got struck by lightning and there’s a 1 in 400 million chance of a unit getting struck the way this unit got struck?”
The harrowing ordeal comes shortly after Caldwell-Pope signed a one-year, $3.8million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers in a move that saw him reunite with former Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James.
