Law Roach says Celine Dion sharpened his eye

Stylist Law Roach says his work with Celine Dion reshaped how he approaches details, speed, and kindness—lessons he still carries after retirement and a brief return for Dion’s surprise appearance at the 66th Grammy Awards.

When Law Roach looks back at the moments that changed his career, he doesn’t start with big stages or flashy campaigns. He starts with a fitting room.

Roach, who has styled younger stars including Zendaya and Ariana Grande, said that working with Celine Dion made him “so much of a better stylist.” He described the difference between dressing newer industry clients and taking on a singer he called “a 30-year vet.”

In Roach’s telling, their first fitting made the standard immediately clear. Dion “quickly identified every adjustment she wanted made to a gown before asking for his thoughts. ” and Roach said he felt trapped between what he was seeing and what she was catching. “I was kind of stuck because I’m watching her see all the imperfections. and I didn’t see anything that she didn’t see. ” he said.

By the next fitting, he changed his approach. “It challenged me to be better because had I not been able to do that. what value was I adding?” Roach said. adding that he made it his goal to spot every garment adjustment before Dion did. He credits that experience with sharpening his eye and making him more discerning—skills he says still shape the way he works with clients today.

But Dion’s influence, Roach said, wasn’t just about precision. He recalled rushing to fasten one of Dion’s shoes before an event and struggling with the buckle. “She said, ‘Take your time. It goes faster,’” Roach recounted.

He also pointed to a personal lesson he said he learned by watching Dion move through rooms. Roach said Dion would stop and greet people wherever they were. introducing herself to “every single person” and then doing the same at the end—saying goodbye and thanking everyone. “It means so much” to be acknowledged by someone at Dion’s level, he said.

Roach’s connection to Dion began in 2016, months after the singer’s husband, René Angélil, died of throat cancer. Roach said Dion reached out after seeing his work with Zendaya. telling him she “Google[d]” him because she liked the sophistication in Zendaya’s style. He said the pair have stayed in touch over the years.

That relationship ran through Roach’s retirement decision, too. In 2023. he announced on Instagram that he was stepping away from celebrity styling because “the politics. the lies and false narratives finally got me.” Still. Roach returned the following year to style Dion for her surprise appearance at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Dion has kept a relatively low profile since announcing her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis in December 2022.

The through-line in Roach’s account is that nothing in the work with Dion stayed theoretical. It was immediate—imperfections spotted in real time, a shoe buckle handled with patience, kindness practiced with deliberate attention. For a stylist known for turning outfits into statements. the most lasting change. Roach said. came from learning to see more and slow down enough to do it right.

  1. So he’s saying she basically trained his whole personality? Kindness and speed?? Sounds like a makeup tutorial but with clothes lol. Also surprised she was at the Grammys again.

  2. Wait, isn’t Law Roach the one who got fired from styling Kanye or whatever? I swear I read something like that. Anyway the quote about “taking your time it goes faster” feels like something my grandma would say, not Grammys.

  3. The fitting room story is kinda wholesome but also… why does he make it sound like he was “trapped” like he couldn’t see the imperfections? Maybe he needed better lighting? Also the shoe buckle thing—don’t they have like a whole team for that? I guess Celine just runs the show, like always.
