Laura Clery Says 600-Pound Fridge Nearly Killed Her

Comedian Laura Clery says a nearly 600-pound fridge slammed into her while she was alone at home on May 22, pinned her against a counter, and forced her to call 911—an ordeal she describes as “the most terrifying night” as a single mom.

Laura Clery remembers the moment her body stopped moving.

On Friday. May 22. the comedian posted on Instagram that she was home alone. “getting ready for bed” as a single mom. when a “600 pound fridge slammed into me and pinned me against the counter.” In her account. she couldn’t move and couldn’t breathe. She said it was impossible to get off and that she could “feel myself losing consciousness. ” while her kids were in the house.

Clery wrote that she didn’t know whether she would get out alive. “Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911,” she added. She said it took three firefighters to lift the fridge off her, and that she is “still shaking.”

Alongside the post, Clery shared a clip of herself being transported into an ambulance. In the video, she asked paramedics whether she “broke anything” and was told they were taking her to a trauma center.

In a separate Instagram message over the video, she wrote, “As a single mom, my biggest fear came true. I was very seriously hurt and stuck while home alone with my two young kids. Thank GOD I was able to call 911.”

She later expanded on the incident in a Patreon post, explaining that her son “decided to climb” the fridge. Clery said she saw it “shift slightly. just enough to make my stomach drop.” She claimed she ran over to push it back into place. thinking she could “just nudge it in and move on.” Then she said the fridge came down on her “The second I pushed it. it came down on me. Not slowly. Not in a way where I could catch it or jump out of the way. It just fell.”.

After it fell, Clery wrote that breathing became harder—“like my body was just slowly deciding to shut down.” She described lying pinned under the fridge, thinking it was “the dumbest way anyone has ever died,” before she called 911 and said it took three firefighters to lift it off.

On Facebook that same Friday. Clery said she was “feeling so deeply grateful that we’re all OK and also not OK…” She wrote that she keeps getting flashbacks. looping through “what ifs” on repeat—what if she had gone unconscious. what if it had been her son. what if her son ran out while she was trapped. She added that after the fridge was lifted. she was screaming for him. and that he was in the backyard watching through the glass. scared.

Clery said the aftermath is a mix of relief and shock. “It’s such a weird place to be… feeling overwhelmingly grateful and completely shaken at the same time. My body is wrecked, my lower back is f***ed, but nothing is broken, which feels like a miracle,” she wrote.

As she continues to process what happened, Clery wrote that she wondered whether any of her followers had tried EMDR therapy for something similar. “I’m just… processing,” she said.

She also turned to anger and accountability. writing on a separate Facebook post that she wants to “f***ing sue” the contractors who installed her fridge. Clery wrote that it is a “nearly 600 pound stainless steel French door fridge” that was “NOT properly mounted into the wall.” She said her “7 year old was able to pull it forward. ” and that when she tried to push it back. it fell on her and “was fully crushing me.” She called it “negligence. ” adding that it “nearly killed me” and “could have absolutely killed my child. ” and that it “should never have been possible.”.

For Clery, the story isn’t just about the force of the fall—it’s about how quickly a normal evening can turn into a fight to breathe, a call to 911, and a room full of terror that doesn’t end when the fridge is finally lifted.

  1. Why was there even a 600 lb fridge just sitting there 😳 If she couldn’t breathe and was losing consciousness that’s terrifying. I hope they checked everything like internal stuff, not just “broken anything” lol.

  2. So her son climbed it and it slid? Idk fridges don’t just slam like that unless the floor is messed up or it wasn’t level. Also people saying “Thank god my phone was in my pocket” like that’s the real issue… but shouldn’t the fridge be bolted down??

  3. I’m sorry but this sounds like one of those influencer stories where it’s like “most terrifying night” and then it’s a camera clip in an ambulance. Like I get it, but also… who records? And single mom fear came true?? I feel like the bigger thing is the dad wasn’t there or something, not trying to be mean just saying. Glad she’s okay-ish though.
