For a lot of people, the moment pregnancy becomes real isn’t a headline or a doctor’s appointment—it’s the instant the realization hits.

Latto describes that shock in detail during her first interview since giving birth. released Friday. May 29. alongside her fourth studio album. ‘Big Mama.’ The rapper sat down for a 40-minute conversation with Nadeska Alexis on Apple Music’s YouTube channel. and the interview quickly moves from motherhood to the career crossroads that came with it.

About six minutes into the discussion, Latto looked back at how she found out she was pregnant. “My baby was very much planned. I just don’t know if I was committed to the plan,” she said, laughing through the tension. “We looked down, and I was just like, ‘Oh!’ and there were tears, and anxiety was through the roof. But it’s what I wanted. But I was just like, ‘Wait, is this real life?. Like, am I really ready?’”.

She later explained that her anxiety wasn’t about wanting the child—it was about what the lifestyle change would mean. including the impact on her career. Still. Latto said she realized she needed to “do something for Alyssa. ” and she framed the whole experience as “the biggest blessing in disguise” because she chose herself.

That theme of uncertainty in the middle of joy shows up again when the conversation turns to a separate viral moment: Latto’s “retirement” tweet tied to ‘Big Mama.’ Around the 15-minute mark. Alexis asked about Latto’s earlier announcement that the album would be her retirement album. As The Shade Room previously reported, Latto shared the message in early May.

In the interview, Latto said the post was sparked by difficult postpartum emotions. “I kind of underestimated it. So yeah. that was just one of those days where I was at home and overwhelmed with the album… I was overwhelmed. I was experiencing motherhood… I was dropping my last album that I owe the label. So I was going through it that day,” she explained. She added that she’s still “going through it,” and she’s unsure of what her final decision is.

Privacy, too, is on her mind. Around the twenty-two-minute mark, Latto was asked whether she would share more of her personal life with the world. She said she wants to show off something she called “so beautiful,” but she also plans to keep her life—and her baby girl—private “to a certain extent.”

She also addressed how public scrutiny can hit hardest in music—especially for women. “With female rappers, it be: our personal life, who we f*****g, all this s**t — and I feel like, I’m too talented for that to be the forefront of my brand or my name, so I started falling back,” she said.

By the time the interview reaches the 33-minute mark. the focus shifts again—this time to the gender of her baby. Latto said she “wanted a girl so bad” and waited until she gave birth to learn the gender. She revealed she was aware of her pregnancy on her 27th birthday, which she said was December 22, 2025. On that day. she decided she wasn’t anxious to find out the baby’s gender prematurely. so she would wait for the full pregnancy.

Latto ends the conversation with the kind of careful candor that often only comes after major life change—balancing what she wants to share, what she needs to protect, and how motherhood is still rewriting her sense of timing.

  1. I feel like the headline makes it seem deeper than it is… like pregnancy is just pregnancy, right? But I guess when you’re famous it hits different. Also postpartum anxiety is real though.

  2. Wait she said her baby was planned but she didn’t know if she was committed to the plan?? That kinda sounds like everybody’s situation lol. And “retirement tweet” just means she got scared about the album or what? I’m confused.

  3. This is why I can’t stand those viral “retirement” tweets. People assume she’s done forever, then it’s like no she’s just posting feelings. She said privacy and motherhood and career crossroads… but also 4th album?? make it make sense. I thought she was retiring like immediately after the announcement, not “balancing” like a normal person.
