Langley Flippers meet draws 580 swimmers to Al Anderson Pool

Al Anderson Memorial Pool at 4949 207 St. in Langley City was closed to the general public and its main parking lot was packed with vehicles. At pool entrances, there were polite notes reminding the overflow drivers who were using residential streets in the area to avoid being towed by sticking to legal parking spots. Inside the 25-metre, eight-lane open-air heated pool, hundreds of swimmers were being cheered on as they took part in the annual Langley Flippers Swim Club annual Invitational June 27-28. Langley

We have lots of clubs that come from all over our region here and outer regions as well. It’s an important meet for a club because [for] a lot of our swimmers it’s their first
meet.” For six-and-under Flippers swimmers “t’s an awesome opportunity for them to learn how to be in a swim meet when it’s their home pool,” Allen said. “We’re really excited that we’ve had lots of families come to this meet.” Attendance was down slightly this year from the usual 600-plus attendance, Allen explained. “We’re at about 580 swimmers this year, so it’s still a significant number [though] a little down from last year, but that’s okay because we’ve got some outer region clubs who weren’t
able to make it. Sadly they have another meet somewhere in their region .” Al Anderson was expected to reopen on Monday, June 29 at 7 a.m. Langley Flippers Swim Club (LFSC) was founded in 1963 as a summer-focused swim club serving the Township and City of Langley. It’s a registered, volunteer-run, non-profit organization, and is a member of the BC Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA) More information about the Flippers club can be found at their website, https://langleyflippers.com.

580 swimmers? That’s like a whole city block of kids lol.
I don’t get why the pool was closed to the public but there were “polite notes” about parking?? Like so everyone just piles in and hopes not to get towed.
Wait it says attendance was down from 600+ but still 580 so… was it really down or are they just rounding weird? Also “reopen Monday at 7 a.m.” like that’s a normal thing, not a big deal.
Love that it’s volunteer-run and first meet vibes, but the way they worded it makes it sound like Langley City shut the pool down for the entire weekend for one club event. If outer region clubs couldn’t make it because of “another meet somewhere,” then why not coordinate dates? Seems kinda chaotic, parking notes or not.
